The jury's still out on that.
Most field techs will tell you to connect the tremipipe to the girdle spring on the down-end of the grammeters, otherwise you get too much harmonic flux capacitance leaking over into the refram reverberators causing them to carbon up prematurely.
It's different if you're using factory installed pure silver IC's, though.
