just bought another pair of monitor 4.6 from flea-bay. insisted on (and paid extra for) good shipping insurance and packing, and coached them on the materials to use to get them here safe. they were not damaged in shipping, but they ARE damaged. couldnt see in pics, and no mention in description.
here, you can see that the grilles are f-ed up a little. turns out they are f-ed up a lot; broken in several places, and missing a couple of pieces of plastic (so no ghetto-fixing). but really, not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things.
this is the big problem. see that dusty looking stuff on the tweeter? those are two rather gaping punctures where the dome was mashed in and pulled back out with a needle or whatever. you can *almost* see it. you cant see that there is also something that looks like superglue that goes about halfway around, right at the surround. i cant really tell what happened, or why it is there. the tweeter is muffled and somewhat lower in output, compromising the integrity of the speaker, and consequently destroying the stereo pair. in truth, i got these for a relative bargain, even with the damage, but that isnt what i thought i was bargaining for, and feel slighted nonetheless.
lol, anyone have some unused SL2500 leftover from their upgrade to RD0198?

as you see, neither in "great shape" nor "perfect working condition". i have emailed the seller and am awaiting response. i was very polite in all communications thus far, and aside from misrepresentation, they have otherwise been a pleasure to deal with. what do you suggest?
You can see these are in great shape - one of the corners has a small chip on it. They are in perfect working order.

Go after him and try to file a claim based on "Item not as described". If you win the dispute you will need to return the item after you get a refund.
If you decide to keep them then, yes either get a single used sl2500 or purchase (2) RD0194-1.
It's very unfortunate people have to go thru all the BS when scumbags on E-bay perpetrate a scam.

I have a single sl-2500 laying around.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!
The SRT SEISMIC System:
Four main satellite speakers, six powered subs, two dedicated for LFE channel, two center speakers for over/under screen placement and three Control Centers. Amaze your friends, terrorize your neighbors, seize the audio bragging rights for your state. Go ahead, buy it; you only go around once. -
If you paid by payPal I would go after the seller!! I had to do this with car cd player and not only did I get my $$ back but the seller said I could keep the player too.Yep, my name really is Bob.
Parasound HCA1500A(indoor sound) and HCA1000(outdoor sound), Dynaco PAS4, Denon DP1200 w/Shure V15 Type V and Jico SAS stylus, Marantz UD7007, Polk L600, Rythmik L12 sub. -
You can go through arbitration with the seller through Paypal (if applicable) and negotiate a settlement that may be suitable to both of you to resolve this.
If not possible to reach a settlement with him you should insist through Paypal that shipping the speakers back to him should be at his expense since they are "Significantly Not as Described". I've done this on items I've bought from questionable sellers.

Good Luck -
If it comes down to you keeping these speakers, I can post some pics of a fix I recently did on a plastic speaker grill frame from a pair of Polk M7's that was missing a piece. It was not all that hard and the results turned out nice, IMO. If you are interested let me know and I'll post pics later.

thanks for the replies and offers. looks like seller is going to do a full refund, without requiring return. a real stand-up thing to do--- the lady said her "husband told me what to type". really, i wouldve probably accepted even a token amount, and just fixed them, as i still intend to do. still, people get burned on flea-bay everyday.
ESAVINON, i am sending you a PM following this post.
heiney9 i thought the rd0198 was the proper replacement for SL2500? shoot, i think i got that from searching this site, even. admittedly, my memory is sometimes a little fuzzy.
anyway, thanks for reading.

Well don't count your chickens before they are hatched. If you do get a full refund as well as keeping the item then that's great, but wait until you have the cash in hand.
You know it does get a bit confusing on the sl2500. I'd check with Ken or Helen at Polk Customer Service and ask them specifically if the RD0194-1 or RD0198-1. I just can't remember for 100% positive.
I think in all my research the RD0198-1 only replaces the sl3000. I've never owned any Polk products with the sl2500 so I just don't know for sure. I've seen it recommended both ways and I've even contributed to the confusion.

H9No, just keep them. My husband said that when he used them they were fine, so not sure what happened (of course, this is a few years back.). He is what I also call mechanically DECLINED!!! I am just so sorry that this happened, so accept my apologies and enjoy them and have fun fixing them - on me! Thanks again!
i count myself as lucky.

There's so many good people on Ebay but the small number of "maggots" overshadow the good and well intentioned.
Most are by no means "Audio Educated" and probably don't know the difference in working properly or not.
Glad this was all done with a seller that at least tried to do the right thing at the end.
