I had a GFA555(I assume it will sound similar to the 5503) here for awhile and preferred the laid back TFM 35, but most Carver fans do. The difference was that probably the Adcom was more accurate, but for me the detail was too forward and in your face. The Carver layered the detail into a deeper/wider soundstage, and yes, the highs are slightly rolled off. So I gave the Adcom back. The Carver is now running my surrounds cuz my Luxman M-117 is just a bit better, to my ears, than either.
Combo rig:
Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
PB13Ultra RO
BW Silvers
Oppo BDP-83SE -
I agree with the Carver. I have one of their older, PA amps that is very high quality and sounds great at home. I modded it to run quiet, and at 600wpc, it will drive anything.
