It might be from Sam's Club. They beat the Costco price and going for $68 now. No 5 Free HD DVD I guess. -
My XA1 bite dust this weekend. Welcome screen stays on so I decided to take it apart (I still have my A1 to play movies with). I'll most likely replace the inside with a HTPC and put in BD burner once they get cheaper... Why? Because the case looks good and is built much better than the $200-300 HTPC cases you see for sale.

I was headed to Utah today from Boise, and yesterday I did some calling around to see if I could find an a35. Noone in Boise had any. So I called a store called RC Willey, and they didn't have any a35s either.
On a whim I asked if they had an XA2, and the sales looked it up and said they had a clearance one in the warehouse for $99! I was very stoked, gave him a card number to pay for it, and drove down. I understood it to be new in the box.
When I picked up the player, I found it was an open box. I spoke with the manager and told him that it was second gen player, open box, and that I was upset that I had been told $99 and had not been told it was an open box. I told him I thought the player was worth about $50 to me.
He pulled it up in the computer, and informed me retail was $799, their cost was $531, and that HDDVD was a "dead format." I told him I understood that, and given that HDDVD was dead, it was not worth $99 to me.
He asked me if I would still take it for $50, and I indicated I would.
He refunded me $53, and I was out the door with a mint XA2 for $53!
I used to have an XA2, which I sold when things started looking bad for HDDVD. Glad I did, I sold it used for $430. In the meantime, I have been using a $98 Walmart HD-A2, which I took back today for a full refund. The CSR said they had been trained to expect returns on HDDVD players, and to go ahead and give full refunds.
It was a good day for me. Last week I bought a D3 for $79 (costco) and an a30 for $109 (bestbuy), and now will decide which of those to keep.
