A price range and room size would help here. Polk has made some good subwoofers in the DSW line but I don't have any experience with them. The DSW Pro 600 looks good on paper at least and it would be worth a listen if you can.

I would say you would need at least a mid size sub. that isnt exactly a small room (while the relativly low cieling helps)

cant go wrong with an SVS, thats well known, but that DSW pro 600 sounds intriguing from what i hear. would love to see what that thing can do.

I would hope they have one on demo for Polkfest but that's a way off. by the numbers, it should do your room fine, but not many people have ears on it yet

Do you know how loud you listen movies too? Do you have an SPL meter? Would you like to really feel the bass? Make your house rumble? O, and what about size, WAF, and the looks of it?

SVS or Epik. Both offer excellent bang for buck products, pick one and enjoy.

Price no object, I think I would go a different route: consider Sunfire Truesub, Velodyne or Digital Drive.

For what it's worth, I had the Pro 600, lot's of ooomph, but muddy at times, i.e., not very accurate...also I found the lack of a volume dial hard to work with...volume was determined by the number of blinks on the front led...I never knew where it was landing...I ended up with a Martin Logan Abyss 12"...wow, can't say enough about it...my $.02

How about Dual SVS PB12/PLus2s paired with a Velodyne SMS-1 to crush your dual 600s Slowcar. HAHAHAH. I win, you lose.

Nice setup, I can't imagine what two 600's will do in the average size room.

The DSW series absolutley SLAUGHTERS anything Polk has released in the subwoofer department to date. Real, honest contenders in the subwoofer market at their respective price points (and then some). That's not company man speak, I've owned them all, SVS, Vandersteen, Martin Logan, etc etc etc...... The DSW series is the real deal.

I'm a fan of stereo subs in a music setting, and even the tiny DSW400 (x2) will bring in the bottom end authority for the LS90's. Buy now, and get that **** eatin' grin on your face every time you listen. Home theater is even more of a home run.

    Cheers,
    Russ

The 90's already go pretty low so you'll want a sub that can do a minimum of 20HZ at a respectable DB level. With that criteria it should limit your selection fairly rapidly. And if you're budget concious as most everyone here is, you'll end up looking at HSU, SVS, Outlaw, and a few others.

Walter, want to hear a lowly 400? Let me know, I'll bring it over. ;)

Budget minded, the offerings from all the brands you mentioned - the new DSW series is right there in the fold. Every one you mentioned is a solid choice, with R&D and real world reviews to back them. That being said, I welcome ALL skeptics to the new 'Polk' bass dept.

Oh yeah, a Polk/SVS sub shootout! Is it really fair though? My SVS cost twice as much as the Polk. So it should sound twice as good!

DIY is really the only way to roll!

I say you need 8 18" drivers and about 10,000 watts of power. Like this:

I picked up a DSW 600 about a month ago and have found it is a very flexible sub. Not much to look at but solid performance. Does it match up to my Legacy Audio Powered Impact sub (dual 12's)....? No, but that's a high dollar item. Compared to what is out there at that price point, I've been very impressed.

why didnt the sub rattle the plaster loose in your HT room but in your dinning room...poor workmanship when the walls were installed that cause the failure

With the house being built in the Forty's there is no telling but I doubt it was a poor craftsmanship problem :D , but I will tell you that the Dinning room is the one to the right of the sub and for some odd reason the SPL is greater (maybe like 10db) in that room over the room it is in. The thing at times can make every room sound different and Resonate.
Do a search on SvS in some other forums and see what other owners are saying about them. I for one will never stray from SvS. Now I just need to sell my left kidney for my 2'nd PB12+2. With one I've seen peaks of 120bd with the amp pulling almost 10A , (Ive got to change out that 15A breaker). so if one can hit that kind of numbers I cant wait to see what two will do.
