RM705 vs RM6880
Hi,
Firstly let me say that I'm not a speaker expert or an audiophile. I'm looking for some "good" surround sound speakers without spending more than $1000. Also given the size of the room ( 20 ft X 30 ft ) I'm thinking about buying 2 separate sats to take it from 5.1 to 7.1. I'm also probably going to buy an Onkyo 605 receiver to drive them. So as I don't really understand much about speaker technology, I'm having trouble deciding which would be the better system for me the new RM705 or the older RM6880. They seem to have different cone materials and is one "better" than the other? Also the RM705 system is part of the new RM 2008 series. So does that mean they are planning on discontinuing the older RM series (meaning the RM6880)?
I know lots of people will recommend better (meaning more expensive) speakers, but I just don't have a budget for speakers beyond $1000.
These types of forums also seem to be great places for impartial help. So any help, advice, comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Here's another question that will demonstrate how little I know about speakers. I know the speaker wire connections are color coded red and black. As are the corresponding connections on the receiver. But not all wire has the same color coding so it's hard to know over a longer run which wire is which. So my question is, what happens if you end up with red on the speaker connected to black on the receiver? And obviously vice versa. Can it damage the speakers?
Told you I know nothing! -
Reversing the polarity of the speaker will not damage them. What will happen is you will have a reduction of bass response. Poor sound quality. The RM 705 is a great system, maybe consider the RM 95 with a PSW111 sub all new for 2008.
I could go into more detail later tonight or Monday. I have to get to work on the Honey do list for now. The best advice I can give is to listen to various polkaudio systems. Do not buy any thing without listening first. I takes more time but will be well worth it in the end.

Hi Len,
Any further light you can shed on the difference between the RM705 and the RM6880 would be great. I did look at the RM95's but as I'm probably going to have to put the sats in the corners of the room on the walls rather than in a few feet away from the side wall, I wasn't sure that "side firing" part would be of any use. By the way this compromise is due to my wife not liking the idea of the sats being at the ends of the mantel. So those side firing speakers would literally be an inch from the wall.
I appreciate your help and look forward to any further advice you or anyone else can give me. How much of a difference in the decision does the same of my room make (20ft x 30ft)?
Thanks again.
UPDATE: My wife has now decided that putting the sats on SA3 stands will be ok. So they could be a little way from the walls. So the RM95 plus the PSW111 sub is back in the picture. The bad news is now I have 3 options instead of 2!! HELPPPPP -
Anyone got any advice for RM705 vs RM6880 vs RM95 plus the PSW111 sub?
Thanks. -
I'm looking for the information too. Can anyone help us ?

I just had a chance to briefly listen to the RM705 in my brother's den and was pleasantly surprised (bordering on being a little shocked even) at the performance of the subwoofer. Didn't expect that little sucker to kick that strong and it integrates very well and sounds really good too.
Unfortunately i didn't get a chance to hear music on it but the matrix was definitely fun to watch again on it
