H/K 347 and optical input

Hey guys,

I am having difficulties with setting the digital optical output from my TV to my H/K 347. My current setup is running a Comcast cablebox to my Sony rear projection via HDMI, and them running an optical from the TV to Optical 1 port. The audio polling feature jumps to analog automatically, but no signal is being picked up using the optical. All cables are brand new- straight from monoprice. Any ideas?

    I use the optical cable from the cable box TO the HK.

    is there no way to just run one digital optical from the tv to the receiver? I am passing all my inputs via hdmi to to tv for video processing and want to pass back the audio to the receiver...

    I'm pretty sure that HDMI connection isn't passing any audio to your TV.

    You'll need to run the optical cable from your cable box to your receiver.

    *If* your cable box and receiver handle the newer HDMI formats that pass audio (I don't think they do though), run the HDMI to your receiver first, then to your TV.

    The HDMI is sending digital to tv. Then the digital is converted to analog. It is not looped through tv to digital out.

    As far as I know. You can loop it with analog out from Tv, but not digital out.

    So the TV will only output an analog signal from conversion- am i understanding that correctly?

    If so then if i run my DVD hdmi to my TV and then run an optical from my tv to receiver should NOT work since the signal down converts to analog?

    If that is the case, then what is the purpose of having a digital optical out on the TV. Doesnt make sense...
