Hello,Fisrt time post here, I got everything up and running. This is what I have, samsung 5265 lcd, onkyo tx-sr505, ps3, polk rm6800 5.1, dish network hd dvr 722. I have hdmi from dish receiver to tv and hdmi from ps3 to tv. Both dish dvr and ps3 audio are connected to onkyo via optical. I did the auto setup and everything worked well. The system sounds great except sometimes the speakers make like a short or snapping sound. This happens at random times. It's just something thats bugging me. Also I have the sub hooked up with the sub out from receiver with rca cable then a y adapter to sub. The sub has 2 switches, power I leave on auto and phase i leave on normal. I didn't hook my speakers to the sub. This snapping mostly happens when I switch channels on the dish or at random times watching tv. I ran it for about a week or so then bought a monster Hts 3600 power center. It helped a little I think but still does it. I'm wondering if this is normal. I've read a few post that said something about filters from the receiver and sub. I'm trying to understand and trying to give everyone as much info as possible. I'm not sure if this is something I've done wrong or not. Please let me know I don't want to blow something. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried to post somewhere else while I was waiting for approval but got no answers. Please put my mind at ease. Thanks

Snapping or tap from changing the channel, I found is normal. My system does that sometimes also, when volume is higher. I beleive its the cable/satellite box.

Thanks, I'm feeling a little better now. Like I said it's random. Also do you think I have the sub hooked up right. Someone told me not to bother hooking the speakers to the sub, and just run 1 rca cable to the left input of the sub but I had an extra Y so I hooked up both. And what does normal and reverse phase mean. I have it on normal. Sorry for so many questions, I just don't want to mess up my new receiver, speakers or worst yet tv. I was reading some post about sub not being magnetically sheilded and being to close to tv can cause problems.

As for sub being to close, that's generally referring to CRT displays and not LCD

Reverse phase means it flips the phase of the audio signal 180 degrees.

For example, if you hooked up the Left +/- on the receiver to Left +/- on the speaker, and then on the right speaker hooked up + on receiver to - on speaker, and - on receiver to + on speaker, your right speaker would have the phase reversed.

Or let's try to make that simpler. If you watch your woofer, it goes in and out.

At normal phase if the speaker cone is "out" then in reverse phase at that exact same point in time the cone would be "in".

Generally normal is what you want, but in some cases due to speaker positioning and room acoustics it may sound better reversed from the main listening position.
