I CANNOT believe this really happened...but trying to control my extremeties from flailing all over the place listening (possibly for the first time) to some audiophile recordings I've had laying around for years... I have to accept it as truth.... I HAVE A PAIR OF THESE MAGNIFICENT SPEAKERS IN THE FRONT OF MY LISTENING AREA WHERE A PAIR OF WHAT I ONCE THOUGHT WERE AWESOME REFERENCE-QUALITY KLIPSCH'S used to sit.
Far as I can tell, they are probably 95 out of 100 in terms of looks...just one very small tear on the side of the left speaker cloth about one-half inch long (could be sewn/disguised) on the wall side.
Ok...here's the kicker. $200. How? As a Painting contractor i run into lots of different trades people, and the other day an electrician was doing some work on a custom home and told me he'd scored "these humungous" speakers. Curious, I lifted the blanket in the bed of his truck to ascertain what he had there. Country-western music blaring out of the windows, crackling thru these old, tinny speakers, he said the homeowner had just installed about a hundred grand worth of "stereo equipment" and gave him these "big ole monsters " which wouldn't fit in his apartment but which he was determined to take to the flea market come Saturday.
By this time my senses were whirling..having heard tales of back in the day listening to Pink Floyd thru old-school behemoth Polks....and I knew I was onto something. I asked him what he hoped to get for them and he timidly replied "hopefully 100, maybe 150" since "nobody wants speakers this big anymore. I asked him if I gave him $200 on the spot would be deliver them for me about 6 miles up the road, and the rest is history.
I immediately ran a search for them, found you guys, and frothing out the mouth unhooked the Monster Cable from the Klipsch's, connected these up properly and then ran my system thru an Avia disk I had around...and WITHIN MINUTES WAS TRANSPORTED TO A PLACE THAT I NEVER KNEW EXISTED!!!!
I began hearing things I'd never been aware of, on tracks I'd listened to over a hundred times, and I felt as if I could not just HEAR AND FEEL, but that I COULD SEE these warm, sonic waves of pure bliss emanating from 15 feet in front of me. I was in the middle of a musical cocoon, and i hurriedly began figuring how I was gonna come up with a story about "my accident" over the weekend to tell my crew so I could spend the next 48 hours or so in the SWEET SPOT....
My jaw is sore from hanging open so long in awe at what I'm experiencing....you guys on this forum all have a head start on me, so I'm gonna listen in and try to see what else I've been missing.
