Surf your Music aka The Coolest Game Ever

I don't know if you've heard, but AudioSurf is a sweet sweet game. The basic premise is that you give it a CD/mp3/ogg/wma/aac/or flac file, and it makes a driving course where the track is literally composed of the music. Parts of the song where it speeds up, so does your vehicle. Drumbeats cause little hills. It's a very cool idea.

On the track it's basically a puzzle, with every block synced up to points in the music, such as high hats and drum beats, or strums on an acoustic guitar. Depending what mode you play in, you collect blocks and try to sync up similar colors together. When you match at least 3, they disappear and are added to your score. At the end of the track, they upload your score to a server where it compares you against all other players, local players (same state), or a group of your friends and puts you on a permanent score board.

It's a freaking blast. There are loads of modes, include multiplayer which is pretty fun. The best part about it is after a long day, I can put it on free surf mode and relax as my music is playing while playing a very basic game. However, if I want a challenge, there are way too many choices including Iron Man mode which goes extremely fast.

It's made by an independent game maker and it only costs $10 to buy the full version (which I did). Not only that but you get the entire Orange Box Soundtrack with it as well, which alone retails for $10 itself. Completely worth it and there's something very satisfying about paying for a game made by a small company that very few people have heard of.

You can play it using the mouse (which I do), the keyboard, an xbox 360 controller, or any other input device you can probably think of.

Anyways, this post is worthless without giving you an idea of what it's like... soooooo:

There's different game play mechanics, but I can see the similarity of flying a spaceship to music. The ability to use any song in any format and have the maps build up when you first play the song, however, makes it that much better in my opinion.
