I prefer to listen to most cd's in 2 channel and of course multi channel discs through the amp's multi channel setting. I notice that in 2 channel I get a lot more emphasis on the low end as compared to multi channel or a surround setting on the amp. Why is this? I guess in multi channel it may have something to do with bass management in the cd player but what about the surround setting being so differnt than the 2 channel setting?

Bass management in a CD player????

Are you using a subwoofer for multi-channel?

It would help if you described your setup in detail.

2 channel mix out? Allows the AVR to use bass management. Unless using Direct mode on AVR

5.1 analog out, from DVD player, allows the DVD player to use bass management.

Yes there will be a difference.

I found my XA1 sounds better when using its BM rather than my AVR. More mids, deeper bass.

When watching a movie and having my AVR decode the audio, it sounds like its being Eq'ed in a "V". Less mids, more midbass and less sub bass.

The player is a Pioneer DV563A universal deck, AVR is Yammy RX-V1400. Yes, I'm using a Mirage 12" subwoofer. Fronts are SDA 2B. I did not see in the Pioneer set up bass management for multi channel...maybe I missed something?
