Is my SACD worth keeping?

SACD player that is... I bought this SACD/DVD player a couple of years ago mainly for the DVD upscaling, but also since I thought I might one day get more serious about audio. Little did I know at that time there is a whole world of better players out there. Well thanks to much reading and advice from you folks I'm finally putting together a decent system. I've starting mainly with HT but also would like to get some music going at some point. I've never really heard SACD in person so I have no idea if this one is good enough to even take advantage of the format. I'm thinking maybe they just threw SACD in for specs, but I don't know. It does have 5.1 multichannel analog out.

My equipment:
Sunfire Cinema Grand 200x5
Pioneer Elite Receiver VSX-84TXSi
Surround: LC65fx
This week: LSi15's, then later LSiC or a 9

    yes SACD is worth keeping. talk to F1 about it he's the resident guru around here - he could probably recommend buyer sites i'm unaware of.

    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    I like SACD. To me, if you buy an SACD, it will be very well mastered, typically as good as if not better than the best CD recordings out there. Nothing worse than dropping $10 on a CD and then having it sound like crap. With SACD, you don't have to worry about that.

    Sony ES, Pioneer Elite, and Denon all make very good, very affordable SACD players that typically play CDs very well as well.

    Throw out a budget, and I'll give you some models you can find at / under your range. Typically, you can get a very cheap, very good SACD player if you're not also wanting the latest in video (upconverting, HDMI, etc.). For instance, I had Pioneer Elite DV-45av (pretty decent universal player) and sold it for $100 + shipping.

    Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure I want SACD in general, just didn't know if the player I have is even worth buying the 5 cables for at this time and trying out. After I recover from spending so much here in the last couple weeks I'll probably start looking for a sub first and then a new SACD player. I'd be willing to spend $200 or so. And this time it would definately be a dedicated player.

    Yeah, sub is the better use of funds if this is HT and audio. For $200, you can get a pretty decent dedicated SACD / CD player.

    Or, I have a Denon DVD-2200 for similar price in excellent condition. Sony has a model, SCD-2000ES that can be had for about $200 as well.

    Compiled (as in amassed) or compelled (as in. . . compelled)? Yes, I am a card carrying member of the annoying internet grammar patrol and proud of it :)

    $200 will get you a $200 player. But, $200 can also get you a used $500 player with $500 sound. The DVD-2900 I posted probably retailed for closer to $1000 back in its day, and the Sony SCD-2000ES for $500.

    If you are patient, you can stretch your $200 to get much more than $200 worth of sound. You won't be getting a Bentley for Ford Focus money, but if you are patient, you could end up with a nice used Cadillac with low miles :)
