I rented this only because I am such a Beatles fan, and didn't like it at all. I gave up about halfway through. They seemed to substitute the gimmick of having Beatles songs and references everywhere for any sense of a cohesive plot.

Maybe it got a bit better after the halfway mark, but unless I take up pot smoking again I don't think I can stomach my way through it.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

We just finished watching it and both my wife and I thought it was excellent. Some of the best music ever written performed by some very talanted "kids". I grew up and "came of age" listening to the Beatles. The story along with the music in this film took me right back to the 60s. Beautifully done!

Someone mentioned that DVD to me today and said it was great. I think I will rent it on the weekend and see for myself.

I am not a big fan of musicals.. but once you use The Beatles music, it makes it pretty good. WHat I liked about the movie is that not every musical number is tied to a dance routine for 3 minutes.

Those are the kind of musicals I hate.. where people stop what they're doing and start dancing in the street or at some odd place like a funeral or what have you. This movie is much better.

I enjoyed it enough to buy it. But wish is was on HD DVD though.

Be sure to watch the special features that are on disc two. Very interesting to hear the director and producers discuss the film.

Visually this film had a lot of great scenes & dance choreography. Musically, it was adequate.

I would give it around 4 / 5 stars overall...

It's good, bordering on very good but somewhat misses the 'excellent' mark in my mind.

Not quite up to the same level as 'The Wall' or 'Chicago' in my mind.

I don't like musicals, my lady has seen grease 37 times so......I had reservations about watching this but......
I made it through and ended up enjoying it. Don't think of it as a movie, but rather as a long music video and you may enjoy it more.
The sheer inventiveness of the visual aspect of during the "Ken Kesey" Merry pranksters on the bus "Further" is worth the cost of the rental.
Doesn't really matter who sings them, the Beatles music stands the test of time.
Don't look for a plot, think of it as a slide show of a segment of the '60's with a killer soundtrack and you may enjoy the trip.

Oh man, I was totally gonna do a review of Across the Universe yesterday. I searched and didnt find one, odd. Anyway, a friend showed me this movie and I fell in love with it. It is soooo fun. I'm a guy who doesn't like musicals, but it wasnt a big song and dance thing, it was mostly singing through the story, which was fantastic. I like a few beatles songs, and this showed me a whole bunch more. Got the deluxe soundtrack afterwards, because I thought some of the versions from the movie were better (alot faster, more modern music, etc).

    Across the Universe: 5/5!

Pretty bad. Not as bad as saying you don't like puppies, or flowers in the spring time, or rainbows....but still pretty bad. :)

I used to be the same way wing. But if you listen to alot of their stuff, there is alot of talent there. Mine was pretty much blind dislike because I was a big Beach Boys fan and you know... seemed like they were rivals :p

Keep in mind I am 20 and if there were years apart, I have not a clue.

Well, I hate the Beatles, a WAY over-rated band but I gave the movie a shot and really enjoyed it. So much better with other people singing.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.
