Minimum Gauge to work?

I just got my speakers today, my 16 gauge wire arrives on Thursday. I've got some 24 gauge crappy wire, will that even work if I just want to fire them up in the meantime? They are 8 ohm and the fronts would only be a 6 ft and 3 ft wire.

    24 ga will work fine until you bigger stuff arrives.

    I had tried it with no luck so thought I'd check with you guys, turns out the receiver is toast after testing a small speaker I forgot my wife had. Funny, I just used it not that long ago, I was planning on buying a new one anyway but stinks I'll have to wait to try my speakers out.

    She thought it was awfully convenient too, ha. I passed on a good deal for the 705 just a day ago, hopefully something will pop up today or tomorrow.

    I did it!! Watching their site and picked up a refurb 705 for $467 after taxes (was thinking I'd be tax free d'oh). Still $130 cheaper than Amazon's lowest price I've seen. At $160 cheaper (no tax) it's a no brainer to me. At $130 I wonder if I should cancel the order or just go ahead with the refurb?
