With HD DVD seeming to be on the way out

I was thinking some of these things might get even cheaper then they are now.
Are any of these worth picking up simply as an upconverting player? I have a PS3; I am just looking for a secondary player. All I will use it to do is upconvert regular DVDs. I don't plan on buying any HD DVDs. (Well unless places start clearing inventory and selling them for $15 or less.)

Love my A2. I can't imagine that you could get anything as good at upconverting for the price...especially if prices continue to fall.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

I second the A2 here. It does a great job of upconverting, and I'm hoping HD-DVDs go on clearance real soon.....:D

My A2 has worked flawlessly on all discs. As others have stated, the upconversion is great. Paid $99, and the picture is much better than the $350 DVD player it replaced. The only annoying thing is waiting 30 seconds for the damn tray to open when first turned on.

You can get the very BEST HDDVD player ever made, Toshiba's XA2, for less than $230 these days, if you aren't afraid to get a Refurbished model.
It has the Silicon Optix Reon HQV processor, which is widely regarded as being among the best for upscaling regular DVDs. This is the cheapest you've ever been able to get a Reon equipped player, and the Toshiba build quality on the XA2 is impressive to say the least. It is at least 3 times heavier than my Panasonic BD30 Bluray player..
I just picked up one last week with the main purpose of having it for upconverting my extensive DVD collection to 1080p. It does an awesome job with SDDVD and even outputs at 24p (if your TV can accept it). I also grabbed a few cheap HDDVD too and will try to pick up the scraps as people panic and sell off their collections and or stores put them on clearance. No shame at all.See profile for rigs. Nothing else here. -
I got one too...
paid 225$ canadian $
nice player, main use is for upconverting DVD, wich is better than the PS3 by far and also listening to CD player wich is better than any sub 500$ cd player on the market.
Plus I got 5 free movies with it. If you are a movie maniac, the HD dvd is for you, even if the format is dead..
