I have two jl audio w3's running to a c500.1 amp and 4 polk db series speakers with compenents in the front running to a C800.4 amp and i was driving home tonight when my speakers just randomly complete shut off and i immediately pulled over and noticed none of my amp lights are on. Ive had this happen b4 in a different car with an amp that was wired to my subs and i changed the fuse n they worked again. I haven't tried that but im just wanna know where to look next if that doesnt work. Does the amp have to get how to blow? This has been in the car for almost 5 years now with no problems.

Never heard of a C800.4 do you mean C400.4 was the thermal light on the amp when the speakers cut off? I have a C400.4 and have had it go into thermal protect mode a few times. This only happened in the summer time my amp is in the trunk and I live in texas this happened after about 2 hours at high volume.

yeah thats what i mean the C400.4. No the thermal light wasnt on, none of the lights were on. The C500.1 powering the subs had the blue power light on but the subs were working fine still. Would the amp start to overheat before it blew or would the amp go into thermal protection if it was going to blow. Im going to check the fuse in the battery wire tomorrow.

Hmmm weird from my experience the amp will go into thermal mode before any damage would occur. Sounds like the amp is going bad I have a similar setup C500.1 running 2 polk audio SR124 svc subs and a C400.4 running 2 DB650 and 2 DB691. I have had my C400.4 go into thermal mode 3 times I turned my system off for 20 minutes and every thing came back on no problems. If you have a voltmeter when the amp cuts off make sure the amp is still getting power. You said you have had it for 5 years I would say change the fuses if you still are having the same problem call there customer service I have had great experience with there CS.

If youve had this happen before to a different amp in a different car then Id say the first place to look is your install.

Make sure you have them grounded properly and securely and with the right size wire.

Make sure theyre not wired at too low an impedance.

Make sure you dont have the gains cranked too high.

Look for a speaker wire that could be shorting out.
