RTI wood question

I hear people talk about timbre match.

my front and center are in black oak (rti10 csi5)

my rear surround are in cherry rti6..

I originally set out to get all cherry and got the rti6 first, but then the center came damaged and frys had a sick deal on the black oak so I picked up the front stage in black oak.

Is it a big deal that the wood does not match?
I am thinking about picking up rti4 or rti6 for the backs and was wondering, should I get blacks and replace the surrounds with blacks
Rti10 front, csi5, Rti6 surrounds, PSW505, B&K200.7s2, Onkyo705.

No, it does not have to do with color of the speakers. It has to do with sound and pitch. I'll let someone else explain better.

Ok, I smiled when I read your original post. I had to admit it. No, as long as the different colors (cherry or black) doesn't bother you then you are good. Timbre matching has to do with the characteristics of the speakers drivers and overall sound. The rti series are timbre matched because they all use the same or very similiar drivers in the whole series, so when played all together they sound very similiar.

Timbre matches work better than plastic matches. That is for sure.

Having different colored speakers would drive me crazy, personally :p Go check your local Fry's. Mine had the RTi4s priced at $99.

All my tv furnitfure is black, but i went with the Cherry finish, plus not only does it add color, it is still a darker cherry finish so it looks really good with my black furniture....Anyway, my surrounds and sub will be black but my RTi8s and Csi3 is cherry....I was personally impressed with the cherry finish.

ok so it was a noob question, but I was curious about the term "timbre" and yes I thought someone mispelled it but I was not going to correct someone when i dont know the terms...good thing I didnt...

anyway thanks for the clarification... I too prefer the cherry ( I have black movie theater seats with cherry cupholders) and I thought the cherry looked good and matched unfortunately the deal at frys was so good, I litterally picked up my entire front set up at half off. cant justify paying double to get cherry, and I had only spent 200 on the rti6s so I figured no big loss there if eventually i sell and flip them out for the blacks.

plus I think as long as you are hanging big speakers on the wall (the rti6) they might as well look nice..thanks again
