wrap it tightly in 4-5 bath towels, completely sealing it, turn it on for 20 minutes, turn it back off, unwrap it and you are playing again.

Doh! we will save you a spot on the COD4 roster while your out of commision! ;) and as stated by Demiurge, you're still covered under warranty even if you weren't the original purchaser. They base it off the manufacture date on the back of the 360.

I was worried about this as well because I bought my 360 used. Shizelbs wasn't the original purchaser of his and they fixed it no problems.

You don't need a receipt, and it doesn't matter if you registered it. Microsoft knows the unit by the serial number and all units are still covered under the warranty. You'll be able to get it repaired, just call them and go through the process. It'll take a few weeks.

I'm not kidding, I read it on the internet and there is a video of showing it working. The three rings are from overheating, and by using the towels somehow it forces the unit to do a hard restart and it works fine. Search around, there is definately a video of it.

I have done it...yes I have currently had the RROD on one of my 360's. The towel trick does work, but the 360 only worked for one week then died again.

But I found a great alternative option. Read these posts here.... http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=628055

He is in Indiana. The folks on Xbox-scene trust this guy. And for 40 dollars I can get my xbox working again. He uses the xclamp method, plus some extra fans for cooling. He ships the xbox back for free. So it looks like maybe 50 dollars total to fix it, with a better more cooler method to boot. I will let you guys know how it works out. Already talked to him, I think I am going to ship my 360 within the next few weeks.

I'm on my tenth 360 since launch. Seriously. Fortunately, number 10 has the GPU heatpipe, and it seems to be holding up nicely. Still, I have a Core system in the closet as a backup because of all the problems I've had. Clearly, my years in computer repair and home audio didn't prepare me for a GAME CONSOLE. :P
    Equipment list:

    LOL.....nice!

update, did the online registration/repair order method. supposedly I will get a box in the mail with a prepaid shipping label, ship it in, and they will repair it. yaaay  actually, I do have to give Microsoft points for stepping up and doing something about the red ring problem, though it never should have hapenned in the first place.

I bought a Playstation 3 in the meantime. just couldnt bring myself to buy 2 of the same console. was on the "to do" list anyway for Blue Ray and Gran Turismo 5 when it comes out, so I figured eff it all.

playing resistance, call of man....which apparently only displays in 720p, not 1080i, so my TV in the game room can only do it in 480p.............looks horrendous. I CANT WIN!!!! :(

I might actually do call of duty 4 on PS3 since I love that game so much. anyone have must buy games for the PS3 i shuold know about?

You are better than me!....That is the only reason to have a mic (playing with friends). Sometimes I will turn it on to mute the voices from the stereo. There is nothing worse than listening to dogs barking or $hitty music while trying to play!

My lag time is horrible. Several of those matches I did not make it in until the match was half way over. I have a friend coming over to change some of the setting on my router tonight.

A squirrel found me playing COD4 on the couch this morning so I will have to evict him. Depending on how all that goes I may be on tonight, I am not sure.

Looking forward to playing again soon.

Yeah, my newest 360 (my 4th) is also a LOT (and I mean LOT) louder than the prior ones. It's quite annoying actually -- I can no longer leave it on when listening to music as it's just too disturbing.

they return to you a completely different unit than the one you sent in. if you have the same serial number as i did when i got mine back, it's because they only switched out the innards.
