A VERY Bad day and Thanksgiving.

Well as I alluded to this was not a great day. My wife called me at the office to come home because she lost the diamond out of her wedding ring (down the sink she thinks). I took the plumbing out to see if it maybe was in the trap but no luck. Looked over the entire house, car etc...to no avail. What's worse, when she changed homeowners insurance companies she failed to add a jewelry rider to the policy (which we had always carried for 20 years). Bottom line the diamond is not covered by insurance and will cost $2,000 to $3,000 to replace. I was just ready to pull the trigger on a pair of LSi9s and a REL sub. That will have to be put on hold as I want to replace her stone...that is much more important!

I guess I could be bitter about this but you know I have so much to be thankfull for. A great wife and two wonderful daughters. As much as I hate to I can write a check tomorrow for a new diamond (something else will have to wait) and I am blessed that I have the ability to do this. There is nothing that my family or I "NEED". Life, even with the occasional bump in the road, is good. I've got all the shelter, food, clothing, cars, gear, speakers I really need. I can watch a movie or listen to great music any time I want. But most importantly both our parents, brothers and sisters are all alive and close by. My oldest daughter just went through minor surgery and is ok and my Dad at 75 still remembers my name (he has alzheimers).

I thank God every day for the many blessing that I have.

I hope all of you have a GREAT Thanksgiving!

bah, have her wear one of the gaskets or washers (if your sink has any) instead of buying another diamond. At least for a little while!

    shack,

Thank you for sharing and reminding everyone here what the important things in life really are. Family, friends and loved ones.

This year my 75 year old mother is going through cancer treatment and the prognosis is very good. For that we are very thankful.

God Bless and a Happy Thanksgiving to all my Polk brothers and sisters.

No, she is a very good lady and a great mom who just had a bad day too. She doesn't want to replace the stone because of the cost and because my oldest starts college next year and she is worried about finances. All the more reason to do something for her. I've got a really nice HT and multi-channel music system and the LSis were for a 2 channel system. It can wait.

Sorry to hear about your lose, You probably saved someone's life by not buying another diamond anyway. You should read up on how many people are tortured or killed because of those things. A man made diamond is just as pretty and are guilt free. I'm not trying to be a tree hugger, it's just one of those things in life that gets to me. Like DeBeers says "a life is only good for around a 80 years, but a diamond is forever".

shack, sorry to hear about the diamond, that does bite. However, the fact that you are able to see the big picture is dead on. We ALL have lots to be thankful for. Yesterday, the lovely Wendi and I brought a few boxes of food and other goodies over to the Jenkins Orphanage here in town and spent some time with the kids. We started doing this every Thanksgiving when we first got married, it really brings it home that we really do have a lot to be thankful for. Whatever we think our problems are, in the grand scheme, they are pretty minor.

shack, my hat is off to you buddy, you are a classy guy.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I agree and hope all has a Great Holiday because we are truely blessed as individuals and a NATION!

Shack, I'm not a Tax adviser but I believe I read that the loss of the diamond could actually be a write down on your taxes this year... Consult your adviser but I'm pretty sure about this and let us know because I have a large chunk of coin tied up in my wife ring.

While reading this thread I was thinking the same thing as Jrausch. Have you seen the stories of whole villages full of people with no hands, fingers, legs etc due to the diamond trade? Little kids who get their legs cut off in the middle of town with the people around them watching and thinking it is normal!!! A quick look down the street showed about 60% of their population in this condition. I don't know the complete story behind it all but I will never buy a diamond because of it. (except for LP needles which are too small to make a difference anyway). I figure if the time comes that I SHOULD buy one I'll donate the money to some charity which can provide something of value to someone. BTW, did I say I hate diamonds?

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!
