I bought a pair of RTi6's and RTi4's. I'm going to use one for the back and one for the surrounds (sides) in my new 7.1 setup. My question is what speakers are more important, surrounds or rears? or does it matter? I want to have the 6's in the more important possition.
7.1 HOME THEATER:
Center: CSi3
Front: RTi10
Surround: RTi A3
Rear Surround: RTi4
Subwoofer: Mirage Omni S10
TV: Sharp Aquos 42" 1080p LCD
Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR805
Blu-Ray Player / CD Player / DVD Player / Media Server / Game Console / Best money I've ever spent: 60GB PS3

The larger RTi6's for the surrounds and the RTi4's for the rear for sure.

    ok thanks.
Do the surrounds do more work then the rears?

I seem to remember reading that while most movies are 5.1, not many are 7.1. Also, I think SACD and DVD-Audio are only 5.1. Someone will provide the correct answer if this is wrong.

I think you are right, but the onkyo 805 is capable of converting 5.1 to 7.1. Obviously it won't be as good as real 7.1 but it will put all my speakers to use.

Yes, Something like Dolby PLIIx, or DTS Neo:6 or Onkyo's DSP modes can fill in the "missing" channels and create 7.1 from nearly any source, EXCEPT if it's connected to multichannel analog input of the AVR.

    EDIT:
SACDs are at most 5.1, and many are recorded with less channels, too
