speaker level inputs/5.1 audio...

I have a PSW505/RM95 system.
If I hook up the sub the Polk recommended way through speaker level inputs as opposed to LFE, do I still get true 5.1 audio? Will my receiver still display Dolby 5.1?
It seems I'll only get 5 channels.
Is it possible to hook up both the speaker level inputs and the LFE simultaneously? That way if the LFE wants to produce bass not directed to the fronts, it would be directed to the sub. Not sure if that would work...

When hooked up Polk's way, the main fronts act also as subs. The LFE (.1) bass, is sent to the main fronts. The sub will recieve all sub bass info in the movie, as well as your front speakers. If you do NOT want your mains to recieve a full range signal, then hook the sub to the LFE and use the AVR's xover.Monitor 7b's front
