I dont own a home PC, but do have a PS3. I was wondering, could I use the PS3 as a PC to surf the web? In other words, if I got an internet subscription through my cable company would i be able to use the PS3 as a PC?

It does have a passable built in browser. It is definitely not as comprehensive and easy to use as PC based browsers, but you can get on and view most pages without a problem. If you go this route, then you will probably need to get a usb keyboard and mouse at some point as the controller is very difficult to use. However, the ps3 is compatible with many generic keyboard/mice.

I'd try it at someone's house or even the store so you can see if it meets your needs. It depends on how much you plan to surf and how complex your needs are...

yes. I do it all the time on my PS3. The only thing I don't like about it is that some streamed videos don't play. Other then that it works fine. They are always updating it too, so it should eventually be able to do everything Internet Explorer can.

What about issues like deleting temporary internet files and viruses, etc. when using the PS3 like a PC? Will I be able to delete these files like in a regular comupter? I assume malicious code could have adverse effects on my PS3 like it would on a regular computer? Still debating whether or not I want to go this route. I dont really have the $$ for a PC right now, which is why I'm contemplating this.

I think you're just going to have to decide to risk it if you want to have internet without a PC. Most viruses out there are targeted at Windows PCs. The PS3 has its own operating system, so just like apple, it's insulated from the most numerous threats. The PS3 has more limited PC functionality, so first a virus maker would have to find a weakness, then exploit it, and infect some website that you want to use. You're probably much more vulnerable with a PC to begin with...

Yep, wireless keyboard and mouse. PS3 is bluetooth device so I'd look at BT kbm package at first but I think any wireless would work.
