Custom HT subwoofer application

After a lengthy process (over a year) of building a fantastic Arts and Crafts/Frank Lloyd Wright style home, I am getting close to having my home audio system back in business. I became engaged during this process and successfully negotiated the transfer of my SRS's to the new premises. In fact, we had custom cabinets built around the big boys for a clean look. Pictures will follow soon. While I wasn't able to convince her to let me use the future mother-in-law's suite on the ground level for my personal man room, we made the den the A/V room for now. My question is:

Can someone with custom sub building knowledge shed some light on sub speaker building? I have a built in banquet (booth seating) that has a lift top seat that would be a great place for a subwoofer. My room doesn't really have a good spot for a sub as I have only one corner that will eventually house an aquarium. I could hide it out of sight near a wall, but it would be random and within earshot of the main speaker.

The booth seat has a great deal of room and volume, so I'm not sure how to make this work without having sub building knowledge or knowing what the mathematical formula is for building one. I'm not oppossed to putting a powered sub in the area, but I have a feeling that won't work. In any event, cutting holes in the seat is unlikely to happen, but don't hold back. Comments/suggestions welcomed and appreciated. Pics to follow soon. Dimensions can be provided as well.

My concern with building into the banquet would be the possibility of the structure or the lift top seat vibrating.A sub enclosure needs to be well braced so as to have as little resonance or panel vibrations as possible.Maybe you could build a solid box of MDF that could fit within.

Depending on the alloted volume available you might take a look at the proven kits by Rythmic. All you need to do is build a box of the appropriate size.http://www.rythmikaudio.com/products.html
