Things to do in Las Vegas

I'm a last minute substitute to go to a conference in Las Vegas next month.
Any suggestions for a good buffet and shows ? Interesting things to do that won't get me arrested like last time?

The last time I was in Vegas, the tower at Paris was still being constructed.
:(

regards

Dave

If you like rides go to the top of the Statosphere and do all the rides. There were building the swing ride that goes off the side of the building when I was there. I did the hole shot ride and that was enough for me.

Go to the red rock area just outside the city a bit (Summerlin area, I think).

You mountain bike? Rent a nice bike and go out for a nice desert ride (very different from PNW/Vancouver riding).

Take a trip to Hoover Dam.

Buffet's are almost never good ... don't know if it's changed, but I think the aladdin "spice market" was one of the better ones.

A good mess of them are just slop bars.

Paris had a nice one, we went to for breakfast/brunch. What ever you do, don't accept the flyers which are handed out to you every 3ft on the street.

Dave, I just got back from Vegas last week. $11 dinner buffet at Main Street Station Casino in Downtown is really good -- better than some that cost $25.

If you have the money, the cirque del soleils are amazing, amazing shows. For food, we really enjoyed margaritaville (freakin AWESOME quesidillas). Bring a bad **** pair of walking shoes.

Treasure island has a cool free show, they have them around every half hour starting at 7. Then you can walk down to the mirage and wait 15 minutes for their little volcano. The fountains at the bellagio are really cool. The view from the eiffel tower is awesome, it costs around $7-10 i think.

Dont go to the eiffel tower restaurant unless youre trying to impress someone, you wont get out under $50/plate.

Heres some pics from when i went last month.

We also went to the hoover dam. Recommended if you havent gone before. You can rent a car and take that.

If youre like really ballsy rides, the ones on the stratosphere are scary as ****. Take a cab there, its a long, boring walk that far down.

Exalted 512, I saw the pictures of the hotel room that you stayed in. How was the room in the pyramid? We have previously stayed in the two towers at the Luxor, but we have not stay in the pyramid rooms.

the elevator was cool in Luxor. That is the hotel we stayed in. We had a deep roman tub w/ seperate shower. That tub came in handy after walking the strip a couple times a day. It was big and deep enough that I (6ft) could sit in and water went to my mid chest.

The ones in the towers are supposed to be nicer. The pyramid room was cool though. It wasnt any nicer than say a holiday inn express, but the view from the 17th floor was spectacular.

Sorry I didn't complete my thought on the elevator in the Luxor, the towers are normal ones, but the Pyramid elevators are on an angle, you can feel it a bit.

If you play pinball, I know there is an awesome pinball museum nearby that you can check out. I'd have to google for details, but PM if you need more info.

I'd highly recommend seeing Barry Manilow at the Hilton--SERIOUSLY. It's a hell of a show.

Any of the Cirque du soliel shows are awesome; The "V" (variety) show is always good; Check House of Blues at Mandalay Bay for any artist that might be playing there--Mandalay bay also has some very cool micro-breweries, as does the Monte Carlo. Hit the Luxor for single-deck, $5/hand blackjack. Enjoy! I'll be there at the end of March. Mama Mia! is also an excellent show (Mandalay Bay).

Go to Vegas.com to book ahead of time--you'll save money and guarantee yourself a seat.

Party on Fremont Street. A little seedy but a HELL of a lot of fun. The casino at the Golden Nugget is pretty nice as well.

Buffets? Pass. The breakfast buffet at Paris is GREAT for a hangover, though.

concur on the breakfast buffet at the paris

the seafood buffet at the Rio kicked **** when I was there, this was 7 years ago though.
if there is still a big croud in one particular area of that seafood buffet, it will most likly be fore the beer battered fish. wait for it patiently, it will be worth it.

The World Buffet at the Rio used to be pretty good. Dishes from all over the Globe.

I haven't been to Vegas in about 5 years now but the Rio was hands down the best buffet in town at that time! It was very popular and the line to get in took about 30 minutes so it was best to get there early.

Stayed at Luxor, thought the rooms were so-so

Rio has nice, big rooms when you don't get an one at the older end of the remodel rotation.

I thought the rooms at the Bellagio were fine. I would stay there again.

Excalibur, Circus Circus ... I'll never stay there again.
