hello all,
i am somewhat new at this, but i am starting to build a nice HT system. i was wondering for a 14 x 14 room which of these subs would work best. i am planning on getting the onkyo 705 or 805. Another question i have is about the cable hook up for the SB12+, how do you hook up a single subwoofer cable to this sub. I can see in the pictures that it has L and R inputs, the cable that i just purchased is a single cable, no L or R. Can i use this cable? i am planning on using the sub for movies and some music. Sorry if this has been posted before, i didn't see this posted so i thought i would ask. Thanks

go for the PB12 plus/2 thats on sale and dont look back. Sub cable goes from Sub preout of the AVR(receiver) to input on either L or R on the sub. Some say using a splitter will give you a slight gain, so you can try it out if you want. Other than that you'll be fine. Welcome to the club.

For a square shaped room, get the biggest sub you can afford/fit.

    Cool, thanks for the replies.
i cant afford the PB12-plus/2, plus its to big, the wife would kill me. why do they make L and R when a lot of the subwoofers i have seen just have one input? My size constraints allow me to either get the 10-nsd or the pb12+ the smaller one(699) thanks

Depending on the sub, you can just use the LFE in or get a Y splitter for the L&R channels.

Based on my experience, the PB10 would be the better choice for HT use due to its roughly 19hz tuning (if memory serves me correctly). I think the SB being a sealed design would be better used in a small room or as a killer 2 channel music sub.

I think you will be happy with either. I lean a little more towards the sb12 plus. Little higher quality driver. Smaller footprint (for wife reasons):). Might not get quite as low as the nsd10 but with the adjustments on the amp you should be quite happy. Just my 2 cents. Like I said, you will probably like either one.

would that noticebly sound different (the low i mean)? i thought that the 12, since it was bigger (and more expensive) would be an overall better sub. thanks for all the feedback.

In my opinion I would opt overall for the 12. It doesn't go quite as deep as the ported 10 but it will still get down there pretty well. I have a 10" sealed with a 500 watt amp and a ported 12 with 300 watt amp and I like my 10" a lot better. To me it is much more powerful sounding and it is really nice with home theater. Just my experience though:) Someone might say just the oposite. It is really up to you. Can't make a bad decision!
