At 3 hours I would expect it to be slow. I've read that the story, acting and cinematography are really good.If...

Ron-P - all that you mention is true. It's also pretty accurate when compared to many of the books about Jesse James. Unfortunately this is more documentry than action, which made the 3 hrs kind of a stretch. I did enjoy it, I just wanted a little crap going boom every so often.DKG999

I was really looking forward to this movie but the critics really didn't like it and it didn't seem to do very good at the box office..although that isn't always a good barometer. Anyway I'll probably be watching it in a day or two as I had high hopes for it.2 Channel:

I'm 2 hours in, would have finished but my neighbor had to go so we'll finish it tomorrow night, in a word, fantastic. The story, the acting, the cinematography...it's all top shelf. The tension created just in the body language and looks given by the actors is excellent. I cannot wait to finish it. But, it's not your typical shoot'em up western.but the critics really didn't likeIf...

I really like it, I have a good 50+ Blu-ray discs in my collection now along with 2 players now, a PS3 and the Samsung BD-P1000. For the most part I don't watch any SD-DVDs anymore. HD-DVD is just as fantastic but being that it's on it's death bed I don't buy too many of those discs anymore, haven't for months.If...

Unbelievable flick. I really appreciated the slow-tempo ala Once Upon A Time in the West. Sometimes it's rewarding to be forced to pay attention. Much more immersive.
Academy award material in spades.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -

Academy award material in spades.
It's rewarding to hear someone appreciate the "art" of film making and let the film develop at the director's pace. Once Upon a Time... is an excellent example (if you haven't seen it watch the FULL directors "Once upon a time in America", it's superb). Way too much "hit me now" and "have to fill the screen" aspects to Hollywood filmmaking. I haven't seen this movie yet but it is next up on my Netflix. Really looking forward to it.
sorry, this is simply a commentary (after a few ok a lot.. glasses of good italian wine) -

So I finally got around to watching this. Somehow I had missed it, forgot about it and stumbled upon it today.
This is a top notch film. I almost thought of it as an oral history of James and Fords last days. Cinematography was top notch, and the music fit perfect for what the director was aiming at.
Loved every minute of this three hour epic. -
my advice (FWIW): skip the movie and get yourself a copy of Warren Zevon's eponymous album (first album on Asylum, ca. 1976). Listen to all of it, but start with the first song, Frank and Jesse James
On a small Missouri farm
Back when the west was young
Two boys learned to rope and ride
And be handy with a gun
War broke out between the states
And they joined up with Cantrell
And it was over in Clay county
That Frank and Jesse finally learned to kill
Keep on riding, riding, riding
Frank and Jesse James
Keep on riding, riding, riding
'Til you clear your names
Keep on riding, riding, riding
Across the rivers and the range
Keep on riding, riding, riding Frank and Jesse James
After Appomattox they were on the losing side
So no amnesty was granted
And as outlaws they did ride
They rode against the railroads,
And they rode against the banks
And they rode against the governor
Never did they ask for a word of thanks
Keep on riding, riding, riding
Frank and Jesse James
Keep on riding, riding, riding
'Til you clear your names
Keep on riding, riding, riding
Across the prairies and the plains
Keep on riding, riding, riding
Frank and Jesse James
Robert Ford, a gunman
In exchange for his parole
Took the life of James the outlaw
Which he snuck up on and stole
No one knows just where they came to be misunderstood
But the poor Missouri farmers knew
Frank and Jesse do the best they could
Keep on riding, riding, riding
Frank and Jesse James
Keep on riding, riding, riding
'Til you clear your names
Keep on riding, riding, riding
Across the rivers and the range
Keep on riding, riding, riding
Frank and Jesse James -
I may look like Robert Ford but I feel just like Jesse James. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

There was also Elton John and Bernie Taupin's song I Feel Like a Bullet (in the Gun of Robert Ford)...
