Ok thanks in advance!

I am currently running power and setting up HT area in basement. I should have investigated everything first before buying some components. I believe I am at the stage where I decide if I need a AMP and what speakers to go with for surround sound. I really want to do this right. This is the equipment I have so far.

Mitsubishi hc4900 projector
Denon 3808ci
VIP722 Dish
xbox360

I hear that it may be advisable to get an AMP to run some of the speakers out of instead of all through the Denon 3808. ??? If not needed wouldnt mind saving the money to spend elsewhere. But if major difference I would bite the bullet and buy a recommended AMP.

2nd What speakers should I go with? I do not need Ear splitting knock you out volume but would like to be able to truly be immersed in the sound and special effects of a great movie.

I Know nothing about speakers and will have this professionally installed but I dont like getting recommedations for equiment locally since everyone pushes what is on the shelf in the store at the time. So any help would be much appreciated.

Do I need to worry about a line conditioner??? for power supply will this be that noticable in a HT setup?

In case this is important Room will be about 15 x 40 with drop ceiling.

Anything else I'm not thinking of?? Oh price can be in the $2000 or less range for AMP and Speakers. So if no AMP needed great more for HT Chairs ;)

Welcome to Club Polk. The best thing you could do for yourself is to go listen to some speakers to see what you like for sound.

You have bought a good receiver with preouts so that's a good start. Go to stores that have your Denon & Polk speakers, bring some music you are really familiar with & start auditioning.

You will also have to get better cables at some point.

An amplifier is not totally required at this stage unless you get the LSI's. Just know that separate amplification really allows the speakers to operate at their full potential. That can also be a future expense.

You will also need a subwoofer to round out your system. If you want to stay with Polk get the new DSW series sub & not the older PSW. Otherwise, look at SVS, HSU, Outlaw ect.
Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Which one is a better sub? The DSW Pro 600 or the PSW1000?

dshannon. Not all speakers require external amplification. You do want to protect your iinvestment with some surge protectors. Just remember this... Nothing beats testing things for yourself. What is great to one person could not be said by another person in all aspects. Look at it like this.. There are many brands of audio equipment out there, speakers for instance. Lets say B&W the diamond series.. I think they are the best.. But the next guy on this forum will say different.. It gets very technical, wiring, room, source.. etc...

You should go listen to all the different things you can, and decipher for yourself based on the equipment you already have. Who cares if you buy out of state? Because the guys locally would try to push the products that they have? You are your own judge. The wallet is in your pocket not theirs. Ask them about return policy...

And do not get anything professionally installed.. You could do it yourself. Its just wires positive and negative and placement of the speakers. If you have any other questions, just ask it on this forum for assistance.. The best way to learn, is by doing it yourself.
