bi-amping/bi-wiring RTi10s with Onkyo 805

I'm thinking of getting the Onkyo 805 to power my Rti10s. I'm wondering if anyone out there has this combination and whether it's possible (or advisable/necessary) to bi-wire or bi-amp these speakers with this receiver. I've seen reviews of other receivers that mention being able to reassign rear surround speakers to the front to bi-amp the mains. Is this possible with the Onkyo? Will it screw up the Audyssey settings?

Also, just generally: How well does the Onkyo 805 work with the 10s?

    Hi,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I am also interested in the answer to these questions. I have owned an Onkyo SR-805 and RTi 10s for about a month now.

    Thanks, Randy

Concensus thoughts on using a receiver this way are that your gain isn't worth the extra work or $$$ for wiring. Receiver's power amps are the weakest link since they use a single transformer to power 7 channels. The assignment feature is more marketing hype than useful engineering.

I have the 805 with Rti8's and have been looking for a solid answer on the passive bi-amping vs. not. That is the best answer I have heard so far. Thank you.

How does the SR-805 sound with the RTi10s? Are you happy with it as is?

    I am not a believer in bi-wiring.

As to bi-amping, you need at least 2 separate amps to do the bi-amping. I am doubtful of the value of bi-amping using just one amp.

All things aside, if your existing amp is not powerful enough, and that is the reason why you want to dabble with bi-wiring/bi-amping, you will be much better of buying a powerful amp for single-wiring/single-amping.

I went from a cheap Sony receiver with R-50s as my main speakers to SR-805 with the RTi10s. I'm very happy with the sound so far. I'm hoping to get a power amp later this year, but for the volumes I normally play my music at, I can't complain at all.

Onkyo 805 will work fine with RTi10s and it will allow you to bi-amp your mains in 5.1 configuration. If you are running 5.1 HT setup then you should definitely try bi-amping. It will have no effect on Audessy setup.

But think the TC is asking whether or not bi-amping is useful without a seperate amplifier. Meaning using just the SR805 to bi-amp his speakers.

I'll be trying this soon with my 805 and RTi8's I ordered the new speaker wire last week. Once it gets here I'll let you know if I hear a noticeable difference.

I have had this setup for almost a month. The ONK 805 works with the RTI10's, but for me these speakers needed a liitle more of a push. They are bright for music, great for HT. Currenty bi wired, they sounded slightly better, at least to my ears. I ended up purchasing 3 Outlaw 2200 monblocks for the RTI10's and CSI3, and using the 805 as a pre and driving the 4 sourounds.

BI-WIRE does help little(subjective) when used with good speaker wires....but your 805 will be fine with Rti10's....
