Onkyo 605?

I'm buying 2 RTi10's and a CSi3 to get my surround sound system started. I think I'm going to get the Onkyo 605 to use with my ps3 for games movies and cd's.

I've never owned good speakers or an amp before so I want know if this amp will be good enough to handle these speakers. If it can't would you suggest I go down to the RTi8's and pick up a sub later?

you might want to PM crd2002, he just got a set of 8s and has a onk 805....He also has a ginormous amp powering them, but you may be able to talk him into hooking them up to the actual receiver to see how they sound....I would get go for the amp right now, but that's just my .02....

I have a 805 and 8's. Sounds good! I am eventually gonna get a nice amp to power them though. Always looking forward to the upgrade!

I own a TX-SR605 but don't have it on Polk speakers. I have 3 inwall LCR's and 4 in-ceiling speakers with a Sunfire 12" sub. The receiver works like a champ and does all I need it to do. The only thing I have to figure out is if I'm supposed to be hearing sound out of all 7 speakers when watching an HD DVD on the Dolby True HD setting when using HDMI. I'm only hearing 5 and the 2 surround backs do not play. Now, if I switch it to Dolby Digital EX (I have the optical connected as well), I hear all 7. I also hear all 7 when watching regular satellite or an HD programs on TV. I gotta dig into that more. Anyone know?

As far as I know you should get 7.1 through HDMI. It's possible that the movie your watching only supports 5.1 true HD.

make sure the onkyo 605 has pre outs just in case you wan to add a amp later down the road

The RTi10 may, ok probably, will need more power than that receiver can generate to sound their best. However, you shouldn't be able to damage the speakers or receiver by using it to power the RTi's and the RTi's will probably sound very good, just not as good as they might... IMHO....

sounds like the 605 will work nicely then. It's fairly cheap as recievers go and I know in a few years I'll probably upgrade my reciever anyway.

Two more questions:

1.Will a more powerfull amp increase the quality of sound they produce at low/mid volumes or will it just make them sound better at high volumes?

2.What are preouts?

Pre-outs are channel outputs on the receiver that output the speaker signal BEFORE it gets amplified. You would use these if you had a seperate amp to amplify the signal. The 605 doesn't have these ouputs and thus can't be used with a seperate amp.

If I were you I'd upgrade to either the 705 or 805 (I bought the 805). Not only more power for your speakers now, but if you ever want to get an amp in the future, you won't need to buy a whole new receiver. the price difference between the 605 and 705 is very small anyways.

I am now concidering the 705 because there isn't a huge price difference, and it would give me the ability to convert 5.1 into 7.1. Is the extra 10 watts per channel going to make a noticable difference? And what is a 12V trigger?
