RTi8 and my reciever, worth it?
Hello everyone, first time posting.
I currently own a Polk sub, PSW12, and I'm ready to upgrade my current cheap-o Sony 5 speaker set I've had forever. I'm on a little budget....
I had a question about the RTi8 in relation to my receivers power output. I own a Sony receiver (STR-845) that puts out 100w x 5, the receiver is a few years old now. I was wondering should I just stick with the RTi6's instead of purchasing the RTi8 since my receiver doesn't throw out a lot of power and I really don't have the money to purchase an amp.
I'm pretty sure I'm buying the CSi3 and FXi A4, but was just wondering which front speakers I should choose. I think maybe by the end of 08 I'll upgrade my receiver, I've been looking at a Onkyo 705 or 805. I've been looking at the deal on Frys.com with the RTi8's being 149.99 and its just too good to pass up.
Can anyone help a newbie out!?

Im in your exact same spot. I just ordered the Rti8 and the Csi5(apparently one of the last ones around) to use with my Sony HTIB. I'm waiting on my tax refund to purchase an Onkyo 805 and the surrounds. I suggest getting the rti8 while they are such a great deal.

6ave.com has the Onkyo 805 (SILVER) for ~690, add the ALF5 coupon (or was it AFL5) and that gives you 6% off. So that puts the onkyo 805 at ~650 shipped. I ordered mine today.Im in your exact same spot. I just ordered the Rti8 and the Csi5(apparently one of the last ones around) to use with my Sony HTIB. Just wanted to thank yall for the advice, I just pulled the trigger on the RTi8's. Now I just need to order the CSi3 (wish I could find a CSi5) and the FXi A4, and I will finally have gotten rid of my Sony HTIB!My Home Theater:

What are some good sites for AMPs? I've never considered purchasing an amp, starting to intrigue me. I would probably hold off for a while because the room my HT is in right now is fairly small and I don't have a never ending supply of money. Its funny I started off with just want 4 RTi4 and a CSi3 for my HT and now after looking around this site and seeing some of the deals on RTi8 and FXi A4, my price has jump up just a bit!My Home Theater:

Great start!!!Here and Audiogon.com are great places to look for amps. If you're looking at 5 channel amps and are on a budget then I wouldn't worry about 200 wpc. My adcom is rated at 100 conservative wpc and I'm very happy with the way it drives my speaks. I f you go the 2 channel amp way and let the AVR drive your center and rears then I'd worry a little more about wpc.

Hang on to your Sony receiver until you have a chance to try it with your new speakers, you might be suprised.
I had the Sony STR-DE445 on loan from my brother until i could purchase my own and it sounded pretty good. it had lots of good bass.
I purchase a Denon AVR-1706 and i'm not very satisfied with the sound compared to the Sony. (and dont get me started on the Denon remote and manual) -
you can find HK 2XX and up for drit cheap, they have a nice warm sound and most of all preouts. They will sound much better then the Sony.
