Speaker stands for LSi9
Does anyone have any recommendations on some quality speaker stands for the LSi9's?
I would like the stands to be about 30", steel, large top plate, and sturdy, and reasonably priced.
Thanks

I use the Plateau ST Series. Nice looking and have them filled with lead shot.Michael
In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

Is this steady enough? I thought the topplate of the Sanus SF is much smaller than the footprint of the LSi9.My HT - JVC DLA-HD2K - Rotel rsx-1065 - Polkaudio LSi9, LSiFx, LSiC - REL Storm III -
Yeah, that's what I am worried about as well. The top plate on the Sansu steel stands look way too small. I don't understand why Sansus can't use larger top plates.

It seems that the smaller Sanus SF stands use bigger top-plates.
At this moment I'm contacting Hexateq for creating custom stands:
http://www.hexateq-av.com/speaker_stand.html
At 199 euro each a bit expensive, but hey, great speakers deserve greate stands ... If if get's too pricy I might skip these...
The biggest problem is that the LSi9's are big and that the tweeters should be at ear level. So the stand must be big (mostly deep) and heigh. My HT - JVC DLA-HD2K - Rotel rsx-1065 - Polkaudio LSi9, LSiFx, LSiC - REL Storm III -
What is an ideal height to support the LSi9's?
Is 30" enough?
If this gets expensive, I might just resort to using a couple of concrete blocks. -
The ideal height is to get the tweeter ear level. I picked custom stands to do just that.
You also aren't going to find many stands with a top plate that matches the 9s, they all are going to be a smaller footprint. The only way to get a perfect match is to go custom. -

30" should do it I think. You can measure it yourself. Height of your ears when listing minus the half height of the LSi9 (=tweeter position) equals the height of the stands
Or is everyone listening to the LSi9's at lower than ear-level? I found the sound a bit out-of phase when the tweeters are too low.My HT - JVC DLA-HD2K - Rotel rsx-1065 - Polkaudio LSi9, LSiFx, LSiC - REL Storm III -

This search for sturdy stands is turning out to be more frustrating than purchasing the speakers themselves.
If I have to spend a small fortune on speaker stands, than I will just get a couple of concrete blocks from Home Depot and use them support the LSi9's. -
I could not agree more. I almost thought about selling the LSi9's and getting the LSi15's instead.
Right now, I've calculated that a 32 inch stand, including spikes, would be placing the tweeters exactly at ear height. So I asked for a 32 inch stand (81 cm to be exactly).
Well, since the tweeters are not lasers, 30inch would be fine tooMy HT - JVC DLA-HD2K - Rotel rsx-1065 - Polkaudio LSi9, LSiFx, LSiC - REL Storm III -
So what height are your custom stands?
33in high with spikes. The top plate is the same dimensions as the 9s minus the side panels. You can see them in my PC rig and in my pics of my HT back in the day when I was rocking all LSis. -
Can I ask what made you made your LSi9's? In your pictures I see now you have Dynaudio speakers now. Look nice!
That's just the thing. I am trying to decide if I should keep my LSi9's (haven't even arrived yet) or switch to a pair of small floorstanders. With the smaller floorstanders I don't have to deal with stands.
Has anyone heard of the Energy RC-30 small floorstanders? They are one step down from the top of the line Energy Veritas line. This floorstander also uses two 5 inch woofers, like the LSi9's. The advantage is obviously that it doesn't requrie stands. -
I use VTI speaker stands, the RF36, which is 36" off the deck. Look here:

By custom I didn't mean that I made them, I just got them a custom height, top plate, and bottom plate. I got them at Skylan Stands. And the new speaker's aren't Dynaudio, but they do use very similar parts. Their actually Stone Image Audio Rothschilde A2s...a speaker whose name you will probably never hear again. -
Mine are only 22" high, but I sit lower than the average listener. They're cheap ikea style stands with a 3/4" mdf top plate (original was 1/8" chipboard) and sealed in with a piece of mdf for the back then filled with sand to weigh in at about 23lbs a piece. They're decent for a build cost of about five bucks.

But aren't the top plates a bit too small for the LSi9's? Can the LSi9's sit securely on top of such small plates?
And thank you guys for all your suggestions!http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SASF

Sorry, I meant to ask you what made you decide to sell your LSi9's. I dug up some old threads on LSi9's, and seems like you don't like that midbass hump on the LSi9's.
I ordered a Denon PMA-2000IVR integrated amp to power these LSi9's. I read that Denon integrated also has a midbass hump. It seems like that midbass hump from the amp and the midbass hump from the speakers might be too much of a midbass hump.
I haven't received them yet. I am just trying to decide if I should return the LSi9's and order a pair of Energy RC-30 floorstanders...By custom I didn't mean that I made them, I just got them a custom height, top plate, and bottom plate. According to the sanus catalog, the SF22 has a bigger 8" x 8.5" top plate instead of 6" x 6.5"My HT - JVC DLA-HD2K - Rotel rsx-1065 - Polkaudio LSi9, LSiFx, LSiC - REL Storm III

If the top plate is to small you can secure the speakers using blu-tak, I do this even if the top plate is the right size.
I sold the 9s because I moved up the food chain to my Gallos. One of the reasons for the upgrade was because I wanted better bass. The 9s were good but didn't go low enough, and I didn't like the bass coming from my sub. I mainly just wanted better sound quality, not much specifics...that I can remember. I did keep the 7s though, and will continue to do so. I would have kept the 9s but I needed the money at the time.
No clue on the Energys, go listen to both in the same room on the same equipment with your music then decide. -
Thanks for finding that info. Then I guess some blu tac it is thenAccording to the sanus catalog, the SF22 has a bigger 8" x 8.5" top plate instead of 6" x 6.5"

One question, where can you buy blu-tack online?

Where do you get the lead shot & sand? Thanks. -
How about DIY? They are easy to make but not sure if you're experienced with woodwork. I have my LSi7 stands that I made myself, I can share the design with pictures if you like.
-
30 or 31"? Sanus Wood stands. LSi9 sits real heavy and our young cat hasn't been able to topple them yet. . .yet.
May add some roll-cages. . to the stands.-Ignorance is strength - -
I'm using 2 nightstands temporarily.I really like my LSi9's.But by the time i buy stands, I'm startin to think for the few extra bucks, I maybe should have gotten a pair of A 7's.
