...so I came up on an older Yamaha RX-V3000. There is a problem with the center channel and I cannot figure out why it will not produce sound.
When a Dolby Digital signal is detected, the front L&R mains work, rears work, but center does not. Even with an analog format (pro-logic), no sound comes from the center. Lastly, I ran a test tone and do not get a signal from the center.
I decided to take the receiver to my garage where it was very quietl. I hooked up a Polk center channel speaker and a source (CD player via digital connection). If I turn up the volume enough (way up) I can hear a very faint signal...noise floor? Along with this, I can hear some tiny amount of the cd that was playing.
So what gives? I can hear something. Any ideas? I have the effect on, proc direct off, and I cannot get a solid signal.

I assume that one does not have a center mode like "large," "small," "phantom"

It does have a speaker setting menu...large, small, none...for front L&R mains, center, surrounds, and rear center. This was the first place I checked when I did not get any sound from the center. I even reset the receiver to it's factory settings and still nothing. Since I have some amount of noise (faint) from the center, I am beginning to think that it is not the amp for the center channel but something with the digital proc. Either way, I have to take in a B&K amp so I might as well drop this off at the same time.
Thanks for the idea, polktiger.SAMSUNG HL-S42 DLP
