I have a Mac and I am trying to scan a document and send it to my bank. They need a signed letter. When I scan it and attach it, the letter keeps going to my Outbox saying it's unable to be sent. I know I am doing something wrong...

I got one error message back saying the file was too large when I saved it as a tiff file whatever that is.

I don't know what I am doing. I have never tried to scan something and put it in an email before...

Save it as a .jpg, or maybe a .pdf.

Features Yahoo! Mail Plus Yahoo! Mail
    Message size limit 20MB 10MB

If they just have a regular account the limit is 10MB...remember that means body/attachment/header/etc. Scanned files with todays resolutions are usually huge....try scanning it at a lower resolution and see what your file size is then.

yeah you are doing a hi-res scan, and it is exceeding the limit of yahoo mail which I think is 10mb? Redo the scan at a lower dpi, maybe even just a straight black and white scan, not color. And save again as a .jpg file.

And shadow beat me to it.....lol.

It should be in your scanner settings....just try a straight 100-200dpi scan. That should easily get you under the 10mb file size.

OK. Now I am not sure. It is not in the outbox saying it can't be sent but it's not in my Sent box either. The yahoo address is one of my accounts as a test to see if it went out and I still have not received it. I stored it as a PDF to finder and then to documents. I attached it as a PDF file and sent it...?

Save it as a .jpg then check the properties and see how large it is. That will let us know if it's a size issue. If it is, use your photo editor of choice to lower the resolution. There's usually a default setting for e-mail in the photo editor, use that and you're on your way.

I agree. Unless you're a graphic illustrator on the side, there's no need for all the aggravation.

So much for the 'intuitive' MAC.

Yahoo sucks too. Sorry Frizz. Open a Gmail accnt, and try it as a .jpg file as it has the highest compression rate of any of the filetypes mentioned, and it's universal.

Also, you must be scanning more than one page to exceed the limit. Try half of the pages, and attach it separately in two different emails.

    What's wrong with 200?

I hear you need to have at least that or better:D

If it's a b&w letter, maybe try making sure you are scanning in b&w (mono) or grayscale and not color.

This will not only reduce the size of the scanned image, but also make compressing into JPG work better as there won't be spurious color info (like thirty shades of white you can't differentiate)

I know for when I'm scanning with my scanner, I don't worry about the DPI settings. I just scan, select the area that I want within the scanner's software, and then I save as a JPG. However, when that window comes up, it asks me how much compression I want to use when saving in the JPG format. Depending on the purpose, I'll jack up the compression.

So for your purposes, you'd want to scan it and save it as a JPG, but bump up the compression so the file will be smaller.
