Hello audio pros

I'm in the market to add some external amplification and was wondering what you guys and/or gals thought about the Carver AV705X. Would this be an upgrade worth paying for over my HK247 that's rated at 50wpc? I can't afford a quality amp in the 200+wpc range so I must settle for something in the 125 to 150wpc range. Is the carver a "quality" amp worth the money? Will it make a substantial difference over my HK? Anyone have experience with the Carver AV705x or can recommend another "quality" amp that will leave me grinning:D from ear to ear until I can find enough change between my couch cushons for something in the 300+wpc range in the distant future.
