Dorm Room Speakers

My lack of tunes here in college has been quite depressing...I've been listening to laptop speakers and they sound awful.

I was thinking of going with something like these speakers:
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Polk-Bookshelf-Speakers-Black-Monitor-40/sem/rpsm/oid/93009/catOid/-12950/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

How well do they perform in small rooms? I'd like to go with something like the LSi9's but they are very expensive (I can't afford them right now) and was wondering if the Monitors will do the trick?

Honestly, I'd get something inexpensive. Dorms are havens for theft, and it would suck to have something nice stolen or vandalized.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

If you don't care about anyone else's listening pleasure you could got some nice headphones. I would rather that route and be able to put them away then fear them getting damaged.

The 40's are great speakers, I had them in my first HT system. Along with the 30's as surround and cs1 as center. I couldnt kill the 40's. But I think for the money, the RTi4's in the FS froum will serve you better, becuase you can keep them and put them on surround duty when you get HT.

I've been through this before and let me tell you, it sucks. In my old dorm someone broke in while I was sleeping and my roommate chased after the thief. We never found him but he didn't steal much either.

From my experience most of the theft is with iPods, cell phones, laptops, etc. Basically stuff they can carry away without being noticed.

I think I should be okay with speakers?

Probably, but do you want to risk it? You're not there for that long, I'd just get something nice but used and wait till you're on your own and out of the dorms to drop any real coin.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I don't know, I might even bring my Definitive BP10Bs and not buy any new speakers for the dorm room.

If convenience is what you are after, then I recommend the AudioEgnine A5. Powered speakers with 5 inch woofers. Received many good reviews. Perfect for a dorm setting.

    If it were me?

I'd go with something like a Dynaco A-25. World class sound and nobody would EVER steal them (unless they've listened to them)

Look for a fleamarket in the area. I found a place local to me and the guys got all this 20-30 y.o audio stuff. Had a pair technics bookshelves for $25. Beefy F*ckers too! 3-ways w/ 8" woofers!
