Shooter's games for Wii?

Ok, this may be a dumb questions, but are there any great games on the Wii that involve the rifle that you actually point and fire on the screen to kill the bad guys? Is this like a thing only of the past?
I want to get a Wii, but I actually want one of those games where you really have to shoot your screen ya know? (Like a resident evil game or something) I have no idea why this is coming up now, but for some reason it's been an itch for a few long months.
And don't tell me I need to get an old Nintendo that actually sold those things! Ha.

I highly suggest Metroid

Medal of Honor: Vanguard is a very good fps on the wii. Any shooter game that I have played has used the wii-mote like a gun. Commonly, you use the stick on the nunchuck for movement and aim (and look) by pointing the wii-mote.
Takes a bit of getting used to, but it is very fun and second nature after a very short while. -
Resident Evil 4 is fun on the Wii...
If you have a ps3, pick up time crisis. -
Ditto on the RE4 and Metroid suggestions"The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage." Thucydides

Mr. Nightly
Glad your keeping your itch to shoot things to the video game realm
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronciles is an 'on-rail' shooter similiar to many arcade on rail shooters. Not much replay value but it serves the purpose.
Any of the previous suggestions may tame the itch as well ... Call of Duty 3, Medal of Honor: Vanguard, Metroid Prime 3. I believe they are working on a new Duck Hunt.
The Nintendo sponsored gun attachment comes with Links Crossbow training mini-game to practice on as well.
Careful though as many of the FPS dont get stellar ratings from many game review websites, besides Metroid, so read the reviews closely and and rent if unsure.

You bought the wrong gaming system for that.

Yes, the shooter offerings are slim on the Wii at this point however from reading Mr. Nightly's post he actually wants a system that he "can point at the screen and shoot". Holding the Xbox 360 controller in one hand and pointing it in various directions while holding down a trigger to shoot wont have any effect .. as you haveto use two hands, fiddle with two analog sticks and a dozen additional buttons ... so from his description I think it is the right system he wants just not a lot of what he wants on there.
My next purchase is a Xbox 360 so please dont take my post as any fan boy post. I already own Halo 3 and GRAW 2 (boxing day sale items)... just no system until after my March 1st/08 wedding.

I haven't bought anything yet! I thought i had heard that the Wii had the best hand held gun shooter, but wasn't sure.
I use my computer for true HARD core games (Crysis, Farcry's, Half Life's etc..)
but want to get something for the TV and HT setup that I can just be lazy crazy and point and shoot. I always loved those growing up!

Ya, ever since I hung up the gun, I just feel the need to squeeze off a few. The bullet hole is nice, but costs too much!Honoured to be, an original SOPA founding member

I am having fun with a game called Red Steel. It also has sections where you have to fight with swords. The gunplay is pretty cool.
