How SDA drivers fail (Pic's)

This is what a normal SDA driver looks like:

This is what happens when they get jarred too bad. Notice the glue on the magnet where it let go:

After breaking the ring off the speaker and positioning it back onto the magnet you can see what pinches the driver and locks it in place:

Sorry for the big pics. When this happens the drivers appear to be locked up. You cannot push them in with your finger because the voice coil in pinched by the magnet. When you order SDA's from someone make sure they package in at least 4 inches of big bubble wrap to prevent this type of damage in shipping.

That's what happened to one of the 6503's in my 15'tl's. I am going to attempt to make a jig for it to see if I can fix it. When I get around to doing this, I will keep you posted if it is a success.

A JIG...I made one myself already, I used it to fix my
other SL 3000...excellent results...I glued it with Super Glue:)

Har, quit buyin' SDAs and upgrade that pc / connection.

This is exactly what happened to the drivers in my RTA8's with **** packing.

You are spending too much time fixing a driver. Just call polk and order a new one.

Quit buying SDA's? Why, they are great.

Micah should get a pair on ebay for his 2 channel rig.

What's wrong with repairing your own driver if you can? Well for starters it has the same amount of playtime as the rest of the drivers and the new driver will require some time for breakin and will not exhibit quite the same response as the rest of them until it has had time to do so, and it saves money. It may take some time but it does save coins. Plus I would say that there are some of us that love a bit of a challenge and find some enjoyment attempting to do this.
