This doesn't happen everyday

I was sitting at the computer this morning, having my morning coffee, checkin' out Club Polk, when I heard a siren...this is not uncommon as we live just off a U.S. Hwy.
About 15 minutes later I hear what sounds like a helicopter going over..I'm thinkin' that there was a pretty bad wreck somewhere and Lifeflight was on its way to Kansas City.
Then,I hear that heli. again, and it sounds like it's litterly right over the top of the house...So I get up and look out the door to see the heli. landing in out front yard.
The wreck has happened right in front of our home, which is about 300 yards from the highway.
I talked with a Deputy that said he hoped we didn't mind having the copter land here,as the guy involved in the wreck was in pretty bad shape.
I certainly hope the driver is O.K. just one vehicle involved, and no passengers...but I have to admit, having a helicopter set down outside the door was a little exciting...

ya, imagine how the pilot feels setting down in an un-known environment - he has no clue what sort of stuff is in the air for his rotors to find!

I'd say he's in about as bad shape as one could be - completely covered, no active cpr, no iv's. Looks to me like they decided not to wait on the local coroner since they were already there.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

You can see the IV bag and lines in the last 2 pics....they covered me completely when I got my copter ride so your face doesnt get hammered by debris from the rotor . I wanted to pull it down so I could see, but was strapped down tight. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
Helicopter rides are awesome, but that looks awful.

That's not a heli ride I would want to partake in, I've had enough crappy rides in a helo to last a lifetime.

+1 to the setting down a foreign environment....those power lines look awfully close.
Hope the feller is OK -
I know a lot of retired military pilots who went to fly for those guys in various areas...They really like it actually, and putting it down there probably isn't as bad as it looks in the pictures...

Not as much fun as it may seem...I would go mess around in the AH-64 simulator while I was in, and there is a lot more to it than I thought......Flying was the easy part, replying to 800 radio calls and figuring out where all of the gauges are...Or, in the Apache's case, figuring out where the f**king page on the monitors is....I thought it would be a lot more fun I guess.... -

Wow hope he is ok. I got to ride in one as a EMT when I lived in florida. It was a fun ride.

Where they landed is pretty wide open, the pics are deceiving...They are actually about 150 yards from the house...you can see our power meter in the 1st pic.
This copter is also very small, only enough room for the pilot, emt, and patient. -
