What kind of insurance/protection do you have for your gear?

This got me thinking the other day -

Let's say a burglar steals all your gear, can it be insured? Basically, I'm interested in which insurance policies can be used for stereo gear...

If so, what kind of insurance do you have for your gear?

I'd hate to see it all get stolen by a thief, so I'm interested in what can be done to prevent your new amp/CDP/speakers/etc. from getting stolen and you lose everything.

Finally, does most homeowner's insurance cover stereo equipment?

Thanks!

homeowners covers most, take inventory and pictures of everything, store it on a disc or flash drive and put it at a relatives house.

I have found out that recently that my Allstate policy does not cover my audio gear. Even though I have way more coverage needed for the contents in the dwelling, the audio gear does not have coverage. Computers and musical instruments, yes. Audio gear, no.

I am currently in the market for a company that WILL cover my gear.

I keep all my receipt's in fireproof safe. They list the m & s# and price. I'll either get what it's worth or not. Digital pictures aren't REAL reliable when dealing with insurance co.'s. I discovered that working at an apt. complex.

I dunno, a German Shepherd trained as a guard/attack dog might do better than chuck norris in guarding your gear. Face it - doesn't chuck norris have better things to do? :D

Homeowners insurance. Also have a full security system installed in the house, garage, even the garden shed.

I live in a pretty crime free area, but about five years ago there was a bunch of break-ins to neighborhood garages and vehicles, so I installed the system. Turned out it was a couple of rich kids from up the road, just for kicks.

It's been quiet ever since, but I still like the peace of mind knowing the system is there to alert me.

I have renters insurance that covers everything in my apartment. I got burglarized a couple of years ago and my insurance company was fantastic about it. I didn't lose any stereo gear though, as I guess it was all too big for the **** that broke in to carry.

Does that mean some drunk at the security place is getting off watching you have sex? That much security,I couldn't live with.Plus it opens the door for crooked security people,if they know there is no movement in your place for periods of time.
