I have finally finished spending money for the time being and my bank account is much happier.

Last week I had:
CSi3 center
R50 fronts
fxi A4 surrounds and rears
psw505 subwoofer
yamaha htr-6090 receiver
52" LG dlptv

The R50's made me fall in love with polk. The bang for the buck was unmatched as far as I was concerned. I set up a set of rti8's to replace the r50's and all I can say is WOW. The front soundstage seemed to widen up quite dramatically. I assume because of the brighter sound and larger tweeters (to match the center channel)

I've been demoing the setup to friends and family using Brothers In Arms in 7ch enhanced, and the pod race from StarWars I for ht. Everyone is shocked with how good the setup sounds for the relatively little money I spent. I have actually been able to hook a few friends on polk speakers as a result.

In speaker choice and placement I would have been lost without these forums. I have done countless hours of reading in the past month and just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone that has posted anything here. Information is power and this site is one of the most powerful I have run across!

Pics of setup to come very soon.

BeRad ... Thanks for this post. The setup of speakers you have almost matches mines. My issue is that I am debating on my back back surrounds with a 5.1 setup.

    CSi3 center
    RTi8 fronts
    velodyne sub
    onkyo605

I can't do wall mounts and so I am stuck with floor stands/floor speakers. I am thinking of using some R50's to save cost here (frys). I don't know if that makes any sense in this setup. I can use some bookshelfs like RTiA1, but that would mean extra $$ on heavy duty floor stands. What's your take on this since you do have some R50's? Thanks. Oh, by the way, congratulations on your complete HT System!

I noticed a big difference in sound between the r50's and the Rti series. RTi Is much brighter and more detailed in the highs.
I don't have much experience with surrounds as this is my first real setup. Give them a try and if you don't like them just sell em to a friend or return them.

Thanks. BeRad ... yeah, I am kind of new to this too since I was using bose AM10s for so long. I never knew there were so many things to consider. I just ordered the RTI8's recently and now seeing some of the threads here my ONK605 is not good enough. I just got the onks last december. Aarrrggg! Now, I have to look for another receiver with pre-out (need to research what "heck" is this).

    Congrats BeRad, enjoy.

Welcome to Club Polk HwnBoy. Preamp outputs are so you can add separate amplification to your system. The more power you feed to your speakers the better they will sound and operate to their full potential.

    The Onkyo 705 has them.

Thanks cfrizz. I wish I knew about this forum from the beginning. Do you know of a link that talks about this receiver pre-out -> amplification stuff. I would like to know how all of this would look like. ex ... Will the amplifier only connect to the RTI8s? Its a probably newbie question (sorry). Any forum link would do as well. Thanks.

There is lots of info on amps in the "electronics" section of the forums. I believe it is just below the "speakers" section you are in now.

Polks are great speakers for HT and 2ch sound. You'll be happy with your setup. I have the RTA 12 C's and CS400 for center channel duty.
