Well I am getting my 2 channel going again. Seeing I will have a home for it. I have an Adcom GFA-5800 that is fine. I am finally putting my GFA-585 back together, and I am building a "GFA-555 tube/integrated" amp. I have been studying this project for quite a while, and I have finally come up with the design that I want to build on the tube integrated. I have heard much about Jesse's, and Joe's Tri Vista's for a while now, and have decided that is what I want to mimic on the highs of my custom built SDA's. I have received a lot of help from engineers, and have done a lot of reading. I can't wait to get this going:D I know there is going to be a lot of headaches involved, but I am confident in this undertaking. Big tube integrated amps are silly expensive, and I know I can do this. I hope to be able to offer these out at much lower prices than the market has to offer. Another project I am working on is an integrated tube pre/active XO/amp:eek::D
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks
Ben

Work done on GFA-585 so far. Replaced input resistors. I was getting no input resistance on inputs. Factory is 50k. Blew 2 output transistors. So I bought 500 of them to make sure I got a good beta match:D 250 NPN, and 250 PNP. When the output tranny's blew (shorted) they took out the resistor on the soft start board. Its going to be a late night tonight. I better be careful 4 rails at 85vdc, and 72,000uf capacitance:eek:

For now I am saying forget the fancy HT, and would like to concentrate on 2 channel. Another Idea I have is some sort of anti gravitational device so I can just float in a non pressurized suspension to fully appreciate the whole experience. Something like a sensory deprivation thing, but with tunes:cool:

I am looking at roughly 45 amps for the three amps max draw. I really wanted to do a remote custom transformer that would be in a separate room hooked up to a range outlet (220-50a), and run the dc rails(welding cable) to a single giant amp housing with the caps, input stages, driver stages, and output stages in one water cooled unit. I could mount the radiator outside in the summer, and also redirect the airflow in the winter to help heat when listening. I don't know. As I get older I am getting a little more environmentally "green". One huge advantage of a single giant amp would be I could easily add a sub channel or 2, surrounds, and centers. I know some of you guys think I am nuts, and most of you are somewhat correct, but I love to build, and if I can make a custom high end product for people I can make some dough. I know I can do the raw stuff, but the only things that I have made that are nice looking is some of my cables:o

Can you mod my (your) GFA 555 when you're done?? :p

I've got a spare 50amp range line that hasn't been used in 8+ yrs.!
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

    Or electrical circuits!
    Point well taken.
Getting knocked on my a$$ working on live panelboards a couple of times was an excellent teacher. I found out years ago that breakers CAN be turned off, too.

I am going to use very light fuses on the test run. I throw PVCs, and I don't think my ticker needs me to play with it too much. I don't mind the occasional 120ac hit, but mega currant 85vdc is a bad thing!
There is an iron heating in the back ground. Time to operate:D

I used to kill trees on the power lines(we were the number one crew in all of New England(go Pats!)). The first day on the job my boss brings me to the jobs site, and sends me down the hill with a saw. Well the trees tend to lean twords the power lines because thats where the most light is. The lines were 33kv there. So anyway I'm cutting down this 70 foot oak (not kidding), and I had the notch cut out, and my back-cut pretty deep. I was scared to cut anymore in fear that the tree would go straight for the powerlines... so I waited. Well about 5 minutes pass, and its now break time. All the saws are off, and the boss calls us up for break.
Well I knew the tree could go at anytime so I turned into the woods. Everyone is looking at me wondering where I am going. I get about 80 feet from the tree, and head back on the power lines. The saws have all been off for about 10 minutes now, and a loud crackling sound could be heard. I knew I was out of range of the tree getting me so I paid no mind to this huge tree falling down behind me. When a huge tree like that falls all the branches, and leaves make a tremendous wind so... I raised my arms in the air, the tree drops behind me, the wind is engulfs me with all kinds of debris, and I just head up the hill like nothing happened.
I get to the top of the hill my friends that got me the job are just grinnin at me, and my boss looks at me and says "WHO THE F DID I JUST HIRE!" he shook his head, and left the job site. My buddies were rolling:D Well thats my best first day/electrical story:D

Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly, R.I no way..... I lived in Misquamicut State Beach for a 1 year or so, I'm sure you seen this house built around 1918 or so had 23 bedrooms with 15 bathrooms. Was the biggest house you ever seen, well the biggest house on that beach anyway. This house was on the north side of the beach, and believe it or not had a built in swim pool with a outside swim pool, with a walk in 1200 sq ft refrigeration and a freezer. Even had a gasoline fuel pump with a underground tank. Well when I lived there many of those things didn't work but that house was something you never forget about.
