Ok . . .

What would you rather have . . . . a brand new pair of Anthony Gallo Acoustic Reference 3.1s for $2680 Shipped . . .

ref-3-stainless.jpg

OR

A used pair of Hyperion HPS-968s for $3200 Shipped?

I'm only asking because I had intended to get the Hyperions but I was in line waiting. The deal fell through with whoever the seller was originally selling to. So he came back to me, but I had already bought the Gallos thinking the Hyperions were gone.

I've heard the Gallos.

Know nothing about the Hyperions . . .

except what I read in this review:

http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/hyperion5/968.html

To people who simply want a really good speaker for their investment and won't go rabid over gear, there are some truly idiot-proof speaker recommendations in any number of price ranges. For about $1600, the ACI Sapphire XLs are a no-brainer monitor. For twice their budget, the Gallo Reference 3.1 is a speaker at around $3,000 only the truly irrational can find fault with. At twice that budget again, the Hyperion HPS-968 is a very different kind of speaker worth twice the investment because most rational music lovers would be happy to live with it until the end of time. It's easy to appreciate what this level of speaker brings to the table and why it costs more than the others I mentioned. You pay more and you clearly get more. It's an easy and rational recommendation for the rationally minded - and even the irrational ones perhaps who would also consider the truly exceptional Tidal Audio Pianos at their ultra-serious sticker of $17,000/pr.

I would go for the Hyperions. Not only do I like multiple cab designs for speakers, plus I like the "happy to live with it until the end of time" speakers.

I can't get over the Gallo's looks. I would definitely choose the Hyperion's. I also like that they are a warm sounding speaker and a sub wouldn't be needed. But it's your money.

I would get the Hyperion as I haven't heard a pair of Gallo's that I've liked very much. The R3's are decent but the line arrays I heard at CES were horrible.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I have a question and i am new to polk. I bought RTI8s and CSi3, and i am wondering if i can use 4 rti4s as the rears or rti4 and fxi3. the reason i am asking is because the fxi3 are hard to find now and in a couple of months i will not be able to find them. So i will have to use the rti4 (x4) instead. Will this work? or do i have to have the fxi3? ANy help would be very much appreiated.

Not to be racist or anything but do I need to be concerned these things are designed and made in Taiwan?

    Jason,

Thread jacking is bad, especially when it's completely off topic. Don't worry though, newbie mistake.

Club Polk will help you out in the thread I setup for you.

    Thanks,

    Mike

You heard the Gallos, you liked them, and you bought them. Now you bring to the plate something that you have not heard, based only on a review.

Unless you can sell them the next day without losing anything, I would go with what you heard and liked :)

You speak the truth. But, come one $6000 speaker for $3000 in mint condition. I have to give it some consideration.

But, I think I am going to stick with the Gallos. Its just easier for now and keeps me within budget.
