Against my better judgement (debatable ), and advise from my well trusted and respected peers....I went ahead and got a Magnum Dynalab MD-102..

http://www.magnumdynalab.com/fmtuner-md102.htm

http://www.audioreview.com/cat/other/tuners/magnum-dynalab/PRD_121239_1596crx.aspx

It arrived today after a week of serious butterflies and worry, since the seller was under a new name, and would only take postal MO...(with life and limb on his part in serious jeopardy, I googled the addy, checked e-mail, and ran the phone number down ......, I booked a flight to his hometown just in case..)[Ranger Recon];)

But all is well, and It arrived in MINT condition today...

I hate to say that my trusted Peers were right, as I am not as BLOWN AWAY as I thought I would be....especially since all the rave reviews and articals I have read in my research..
But I have to remeber...I was listening to DIGITAL tuners, and this one is 100% ANALOG..

Flame on my friends...I know what your gonna say....but It does sound very , very good...and looks killer

It is a product that is very dependant on the cables and gear associated with it , on what you hear..

I am running the Cary V12, and the Parasound /HP 850 Pre....
I think the 850 is the week link, and it will all sound better and have better synergy with the SLP-98 hooked up..
Maybe some other/different tubes for the V12 ?!!

The new Parasound 2000 pre I just got is a solid piece and will be throwing her into the mix soon ...

I am waiting to get some XLR cables so I can play with that piece ......(Ben, I may need your services soon)

I might have to actually listen to Mark and Russ, and break down and get the Vintage Tuna that I have been drooling over on the FM site they turned me on to...

I have the Cary 306 SACD/HDCD/CD on my short list , and my sights are set..

I also have the Cary SLP-05 on my Radar, but need to do more research as I am hearing that the 98 is as good if not better sounding....we shall see..;)

Anyway....
The Nak and the Parasound will be up for grabs soon....and one or both of the Parasound pre`s will be also...

all "extra gear" will be listed soon, as well as all "extra" cables this weekend, so stay tuned (pun intended):D

I just like swapping gear out and playing..!!

THis Hobby can sure get exspensive...but what a way to go !!

It`s fun !

Ain`t that what it`s all about ?

ps...as I was writing this, I realized that I was totaly into the MUSIC...the sound is soooo smooth and realistic sounding....

I think She`s a keeper ...
Last tuna I will ever buy...(maybe !)

Maybe I`ll send it in for an upgrade !
They can make it a tube tuna also.....MD offers quite a few upgrades available for all of thier units, and I have found a couple stellar deals on the models just under this one (which may even be a better deal than I got)..the MD-90. MD-100. and MD101a

If you listen to the tuna as much as I do...it`s definately worth it...IMO

    Have you devolved?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Sweet tuner! I've never really been into tuners because in the end, the sources is radio, but I could see how it could be worth it. Plus it looks awesome.

It is very well built !

It is very much analog, and not diitical....and that is very apparent when she is playing..

I hav eread that she will sound like or best some high $$ CDP`s , so I must rearrange my rig again, and see what she is made of..

I may have been able to do bettr, and Mark & Russ will attest to this, and will probably be guiding me in the right tuna direction if it doesn`t trip my switch....

I am just looking for thr last tuna I ever buy....I need to get all my pieces to where I will be satisfied for many years to come, so I am doing my bets to get the best I can afford..

and this unit (excluding Mark & Russ) comes highly reguarde...

I have become enthralled with the new FM websitew that they turned me on to , and they have some stellar vintage stuff that I may go after instead..

I can always make back what I put out for the MD-102, and try something else if it doesn`t work out...they seem to be in demand

    keep upgrading it !!!

Once I find "the" tuna, I can concentrate on other parts of the system....but it really is about synergy

It could be the best piece on the planet, but if there is no synergy....well...it will suck !!

The cool thing about this tuna, is that can send it in and upgrade to any of the models above it....I can even make it a tube version
