They sound much better then what I had before. But I find the lower range to be lacking. I'm wondering if it's my receiver.

I own a crappy Sony STR-K900. Is this receiver not good enough to power the RTi8's well?

I'm just wondering if the sound will improve greatly when I finally buy a new receiver.

Thanks in advance.

congrats, and yes buying a new receiver with pre out and add external amps you will notice a big diff. My 200wpc monoblocks prove it.

IMHO a subwoofer would be what you need. The amps are a great help but if your looking for lows you'll need a sub.

Check out the Velodyne Digital Drive 1812 Signature Edition

This would give you a little extra oomph in the low end

my 8's go deeper than i thought possible. i listen to music in direct/ 2ch stereo mode. but if i wanna listen to some bass-heavy music, i set the soundfield to include my sub. rap makes me wanna bring the roof down!

It must be my receiver then because they don't sound deep at all.

Does your receiver have a bass adjustment? I must agree w/Bizill though, they do go deeper than I expected. But, a properly blended sub makes a ton of difference.

Ya it does, I tried playing with that it didn't really help much. I think it's just because the receiver is so low quality. It's one of those "home theaters in a box" type deals I got a long time ago.
