Audio Research SP16L vs. SP17L

Do I understand correctly that the SP17L replaces the SP16L? Can someone familiar with both highlight the differences for me? I have read the specs on both, but I am more interested in actual audible differences. Thank you kindly.

    Yes, it's the replacement and I'd spend your money on the SP16L. I've heard the new one and I don't think it's sonically that much different...certainly not to justify the price increase.
    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Thank you, Dorokusai. I have been considering the SP16L, but do not have the opportunity to hear the SP17L.

    They are just renewing the lineup with a couple tweaks. I think it's been over 5 years since the SP15. If anything it will create some great used prices from those motivated to upgrade.
