speaker placement makes such a difference

I have just finished adding an external amp to my rig and moving all my gear from a "tv" stand to a dedicated rack. I had to buy new speaker cables as well as IC's(audio art).
I got it all hooked up today and i sounded like S%^t. I was just about ready to put my amp up for sale and move everything back to how it was (i would have been out $450 for all the IC's and speaker cable i just bought though) until I decided to play around with my speaker placement.
I spent over an hour listening and adjusting my speakers in small increments to get things sounding proper. By proper i mean when you can close your eyes and reach out and touch him/her. I use Dianna Krall as my reference CD. When my speaks are right......it seems as though she is directly in front of me and a little ahead of the instruments. I recently picked up a the new Norah Jones CD and for some reason with the exact same set-up....she is a teeny tiny bit off to the left of me....anyone else get this?
Anywhooo...point i'm getting at is....newbies looking to get the best out of their 2 channel experience....play around with your speaker placement......if you manage to get it...it sounds awesome. If you're off by a little bit....it can sound like crap.
