Hello everyone,
I have 2 sr124 subs and i was wanting to power them with the Hifonics BXi 2607D, Kicker ZX1500.1 or jl audio 1000/1. I am not sure which to buy. If i go with the jl audio 1000/1 I know there is sound quality with these amps. The other two amps would be for spl, am i right or wrong? Is there a range of RMS for the SR124 sub or does it strickly need at least 700 watts.

Thank you for your time.

For subs, sound quality of the amp is basically a non-issue.

There is no real range of power to consider. Try to get as much power as affordable.

There is no sound quality of an amp other than noise issues. An amps job is to amplify the source signal completely transparent, thats why they all have frequency response curves that are virtually ruler flat from 20-20KHz. Besides, why would you want an amp that changed the sound.

The only differences between amps that you should be worried with are power output, build quality and noise issues. Both the Kicker and the JL will exceed their rated power but the JL will exceed a little more. The Hifonics will likely come in a tad under its rated power.

Both the Kicker and JL are built rock solid and should last you plenty long. The Hifonics not so much. Their build quality just isnt up to snuff these days.

Neither the JL or the Kicker will have any turn on pops or any other noise issues so long as there isnt a defect from the factory. Again, cant say the same for the Hifonics.

So my recommendation would be to get the Kicker. It is closest to the power requirements a pair of SR 12's would need.

Thank you all for your reply. Macleod, How many more watts have you seen the jl exeed its power rating by for the 1000/1. Sound like you have dealt with these amps before.

    Thank you.

Dont misunderstand, it wont make 5000 watts, but I wouldnt think 1100 would be out of the question or even 1200. I know the 500/1 cleanly makes 600 RMS.
