I have a chance to purchase 2 used 3 chanel amps 225wx2
If i use 1 to power my 2 fxi5 surrounds and 1 csi3 rear
Would this damage the speakers.
I read somewhere that watts will not damage speakers but distortion will?
Tks

Is it too much power? No, since you'll never use that much power for a surround speaker anyways. It's overkill but it will work fine.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Nope you should be fine, your ears will give out before you damage the speakers.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Here is another question
When i hook up the other 3 chanel amp to my csi5 and the rti10's,if i want to listen in only stereo mode can i? does this affect anything since i am connected in 3 chanels.I guess i can still control this with my HK right!!!!???
Maybe a stupid question but this is new to me.
Thanks again -
The HK should have a stereo mode.Sharp Elite 70

Thanks for the info guys.
I am basically going by what i have read on all the posts.
That adding an amp will make my rti10's come more alive.
I hope this is true.
Does andbody know about Anthems
I think i will be going to buy the Anthems 225wx3 brand new.Used stuff is ok in price but once i pay transport, taxes, custom duties will be expensive and no warranty.Listened to rotel and like most of you guys said not to good on bass for the RTi10s.I don't have much choice here (anthem, rotel, classe audio$$$$,B&K,Krell$$$)
Thanks again for helping out a newb. -
A good amp should add some dynamics and presence to the sound. It might not be a drastic change from what you're using now (hard to tell because I don't know exactly what you're using now) but it'll most likely be a very good purchase that'll last you a long time.
I think buying an amp was the best thing I did for my system. Not necessarily because it drastically improved the sound over my AVR (it helped a lot but it wasn't drastic). But it opened me up to the world of separates and made future expansion easier and better.
Enjoy the purchase. If for some reason you don't like it you can sell it and recoup much of the purchase price.Speakers: Polk LSi15

Sorry my avr is a HK230
Your saying that i would not hear that much of a difference, then is it worth spending the 1800.00 on an amp? -

I don't know if it's worth 1800.00 on the amp, that's a decision you have to make. There's a lot of people on this forum that have spent a heck of a lot more than $1800 on their amps. I paid $1250 for my 5 channel amp (used) and couldn't be happier. As I say it didn't make a night-and-day difference to the sound but it added a quality that i'm very happy with. And now i'm able to pursue adding a dedicated pre-amp am not be tied to an AVR forever. I like separates.
Amps typically last a long time and do not become outdated and they have great resale value. I don't have any experience with Anthem amps, but if the cost is not prohibitive to you and you've done your research on the amp then I don't think it'll be a poor purchase. Just don't expect it to alone magically transform your system into something that it's not.Speakers: Polk LSi15

Thanks for the info -
If it is on a 15 amp circuit, you might pop the breaker at START UP. Turn the amps on one by one at some time apart. Notice how the lights may dim similar to as when you activate a hair dryer. Be careful if you are running the amps on the same circuit as sensitive video electronics, such as a plasma, or LCD TV. On a 20 amp circuit, the voltage drop would be lower.[

Hi
I have a monster hts1600 series surge and line conditioner, but they say i should not put the amp or amps on it where would i protect them on,do i have to buy a seperate power bar? -
Both of the devices I have (Belkin PF60, and APC H10) provide outlets for high current amps. I drive my amps via the Belkin PF, and the TV equipment on the APC. What is the VA rating for your HTS 1600. I ran my Adcom GFA 555 off of a HTS 3500 for a while and never had any problems with it. If your amp is power hungry, and you want Automatic Voltage Regulation, the APC H15 might be a better choice for equipment protection.[
