I'm somewhat familiar with w-bodies, where are you trying to break through? There usually is a large gasket in the passenger footwell area, sometimes it's pretty tight though.

Some, like Face was saying have grommets or gaskets pre-installed to make runs like that. (They usually already have some wire in them so look hard) You also have the option of drilling your own hole if you find a clear place in the firewall.

Look under your dash and see where the main harness is comming in (usually near the parking break and stearing shaft) the wall there should be one layer thick. Some bodys come in from behind the glove box (also one layer thick) both places have areas of the dash panel to secure the cable to with wire ties or wire looms, I would also use a rubber grommet in the hole you drill to stop the metal from cutting the jacket.

P.S. the car audio guys on the forum might have a better solution for ya look at the bottom of the forum "on the move" and post your question there I'm sure they will and can help also.

i tried drilling a hole where the gas throttle line goes through to the pedal cause it looked like one piece of sheet metal but the drill just keeps walking and not doind anything. i haven't looked to find the main wireing harness but i haven't seen it yet either. thanks for the hints

I had to drill a hole through the firewall for gauges. As you already found out, you're going to need a center punch and a heavy duty bit. Since your application is different, try the passenger side footwell, there should be a rectangle shaped gasket there with a few wire harnesses going through it.

I posted the same question in the car audio section . I drive a Chevy Suburban . I believe it was Polk forum member "installer4life" that told me where to run the power wire . There was actually a perforated piece of plastic cover near the main wire harness , he said just pull it back , remove the foam and drill your hole . Worked like a charm . It was a very tight spot to get to but it worked perfect . I tried using a grommet that I got a Lowes but couldn't get it in with one hand so I used a PCV valve gasket that I had kicking around my tool box , worked great and the power wire fits nice and snug . Car Audio and Electronics is the forum you need to ask this question in . Good luck and don't give up .
