Friend came over with his Wadia CDP, Acurus Pre and Amp...
The Acurus gear was very bright and dry, things just didnt sound like music -- but more so a reproduction, no soul, no air, just electronics... so they lasted in the chain approximately... 1 song...
The Wadia v. the Shanling is kind of a different animal...
The Wadia I would say has more detail, a little wider staging, and a little more control to it... and the noise floor was dead quiet with Wadia...
The Shanling seemed to be a bit more relaxed with not quite as much sparkle to the top end, but 98% of what the Wadia was doing... but I gotta admit, the Shanling seemed a bit more dynamic in some passages, more overall dynamic range and not as "Even" if that makes sense...
All in all, I would say the Shanling was 95% of the player as the Wadia...
He basically said the Candela though was one of the best preamps he had heard... he said the difference between the Candela and the Wadia direct, but the Candela actually added more of a musical aspect of it...
And of course, the Taylos impressed with greatly... I had actually unplugged the subwoofer - not thinking about it - just to free up a power outlet... and we didn't even realize it through most of the demonstration, then when we packed all his gear back up -- I plugged it back in and heard the amp click back on and was like wow..
So needless so say he was very impressed with the Taylos and their abilities.
Fun day of trading out gear...
But the Odyssey and Shanling stuff stays another day.

We left all his gear on - not plugged up - then switched it over...
